Many dogs have an unhealthy habit of eating too fast. They love to lap up all the food in a swift, sweeping motion and gobble down or “inhale” their food like a vacuum cleaner. This way, they end up swallowing everything without much chewing, thus leading to indigestion. The Alfie Pet Slow Eating Dog Bowl solves the following problems.“My dog is overweight” - Slower eating makes your dog feel full faster, thus avoiding instances of re-eating. As a result this bowl can also be a useful weight management tool.“My dog vomits after eating” - Dogs that eat too fast may regurgitate as a result. By slowing down the dog’s eating process to a healthy and moderate pace, this problem can be eradicated.“My dog eats his poop” - Through moderating your dog’s eating pace, the bowl prevents coprophagy. Coprophagy (the act of feeding on excretion) has many possible causes. Poor digestion due to fast eating may in turn result in poor nutrient absorption. Instinctively, dogs may then try to reprocess it by eating up his nutrient rich poop. However owners who have this problem should consult a professional to rule out coprophagy as a behavioral problem.MAKE THE SWITCH: If your dog has problems switching over from his existing feeding bowl, we suggest adding bits of his favorite treats into the food to encourage him to eat from the new bowl. Once your dog is used to eating from his new bowl, you can resume his normal diet and leave the treats out gradually.Vea 2.0 is dishwasher-safe but do not microwave.

Really Works!!
This bowl is a high quality, well made dog food bowl. Heavy enough and with a rubber edged bottom to NOT move around or slide while in use. We use ours on a raised stand and it is very secure. Our big dog is a terrible gulper, and never chews anything if he can swallow it whole. He also has had many health issues, including two surgeries, and stomach problems. We had tried another style anti-gulping bowl first which did NOT slow him down at all, so I was slightly pessimistic about trying this one, but surprise, this one works!!Our boy is a Weimaraner, and they have a fairly narrow face, so he can put his nose and mouth down into all the narrow and small spaces to get the food, but he has to work at it, and it has really slowed him down because now he cannot just put his lower jaw into the bowl and shovel or scoop the food up in huge amounts. One last point, this bowl is very nice looking. My husband said who cares what color or what it looks like, the dog doesn't care, but I said I CARE, I have to look at it and put the food into it several times a day. See it every time I walk into the kitchen, so why not have something that is attractive, and pretty. I got the beautiful color Cyan.

It works
My little 10 pound dog was inhaling her food and then having problems with gas. I bought the small dish and it has been working to slow her eating down. My dog is on a medical diet and eats canned food, other slow eating dishes I looked at would not work with the wet food but this one works quite well. It is also easy to clean even if some of the food is dried on it easily comes off. I would purchase again.

Good Quality Bowl But Definitely Not Suitable for Large Size Dogs
After thoroughly researching all of the various slow feeders on amazon, I ordered this one based on the description that it was "...best for large breeds like Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Dobermans and Beagles etc." Unfortunately, the description as regards to large dogs didn't prove to be accurate. The bowl was much too small for our lab and forced her to slurp up her food causing lots of tummy problems. There was no doubt the bowl was creating a problem because she's never burped before or since. In all other respects, this a nice, heavy weight, quality bowl---and if you have a medium size dog, I can definitely recommend it. If you have a large size dog (and I would never count Beagles in that category), buy something else or wait until the vender makes a jumbo size bowl. I would buy a jumbo size bowl in a heartbeat if they become available!

This is helping a lot!
I looked at a lot of bowls online to help our dog eat slower before I selected this one. Zorro is part Dachshund and part Bichon, so he eats less than some bowls were used for. He gets 1/2 cup dry food twice a day, and would gulp it down in just a few seconds. This has led to some "other" problems for him. The bowl helps a great deal to slow him down ... I put in 1/4 cup at a time. Hoping he will slow down a bit more. I gave this 4 stars until I see how the bowl holds up over time and whether Zorro digests his food better and gets more nutrition from his meals. So far I am very pleased.

Actually Worked as Advertised
This bowel design actually worked for me. It forced my puppy to slow down her eating and she was still able to get to all her food. All the other designs I tried, the puppy couldn’t get to her food so not only did they slow her eating down, she couldn’t get any food. Doesn’t hold a lot of food so great for very small dogs and puppies. Works best on a rug or carpet, not so much on a smooth surface.

Good Bowl
This is an excellent bowl to regulate a medium sized dog's food gulping...we have had it three years and it still looks brand new

Very advanced
My mistake. I was worried about getting a dish that would slow my cat down enough, so I looked for the most difficult bowl I could find that would work with canned food. The pieces in the middle that jut out on this dish are really tall. The shortest one in this bowl is as big as my cat can handle. I have to put all the canned food in that corner of the dish ;-) Definitely would be better for dogs with longer tongues.

Works.
We have an 8 month old German Shepard that used to inhale her food. We decided to get one of these bowls to help slow her eating. The bowl works well, she has to work for the food and is not allowed to take large bites. The bowl was quite a bit smaller than I had expected, the listed diameter is the measurement of the bottom of the bowl, not the top where the food goes. Other than that it seems to work quite well with our large breed dog.

Works great!
This bowl is great. For the first time in two years, my dog is taking the time to chew his kibble instead of inhaling it. I bought it because I have one very slow eating dog and one very fast eating dog and it was so hard to feed them at the same time because the fast one would inhale his food and then move on the the slow dog’s bowl and steal his. This bowl forces fast dog to eat at the same pace and now they can eat in peace side by side. Fast dog does not show any frustration, seems to see it as a game. Great product.
