desertcart.com : TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen nib EF : Office Products Review: Great pen at a good price - TWSBI 580 is a large sturdy pen made of clear strong plastic, trimmed with chrome, capped it is 5.6" long and weighs 28.5 grams. When uncapped it is 5.1" long and weighs 14.4 grams; its round faceted barrel diameter is 0.5". It can only be filled with a piston and does not accept ink cartridges. Posting the pen is awkward and inconvenient; the total 7.1" length and the 14.1 grams weight of the posted cap result in an imbalance. The packaging is very good. Inside a cardboard box with a red TWSBI logo is a clear demonstrator plastic box wrapped with protective foam padding. The box includes the pen, silicone grease and a TWSBI wrench to facilitate servicing the pen. The box is a keeper. Out of the box the nib did not require any adjusting or rinsing. After inking up the pen, the writing was smooth without any skipping. The nib was evenly wet with constant ink flow with minimal pressure and slid easily on the paper. Pros Large capacity piston filler. Clear strong plastic body. Easy ink flow through nib. Easily replaceable and interchangeable nibs. Ease of cleaning and maintenance. Cons Hardly any. But if I had to nit-pick it would be: * Relatively large size of the pen (for individuals with small hands) * Pen does not post well - feels off balance when posted. * Does not accept ink cartridges. The TWSBI Diamond 580 is a very good all around pen for everyday writing as well as calligraphy, thanks to its effortlessly interchangeable nibs from EF, F, M, B and stub 1.1 or 1.5 mm for script/scrawl. It is easily comparable to the major brands at a fraction of the price, which makes it a great value. Review: The best pen for around $50 - Coming from nearly any pen, this thing is amazing. It writes so smoothly and the piston filling system makes it almost as easy to fill as any cartridge pen. I used to use a Pilot Metropolitan which is a great pen but I can't go back now. This pen feels great to write with and one fill of ink (I use noodlers bulletproof black) will last you well over a week even with the most excessive and wasteful doodling. I have shown this to many of my friends who like to use good pens and they all think it's amazing. Additionally, I got the Extra Fine nib size and I never have a problem with bleeding or smearing, even on cheap lined paper or textbooks where the paper is coated. Amazing pen 10/10 would recommend.

Nice pen, excellent customer service
This pen had been on my wish list for ages and I finally ordered it. It's a bit pricey for a non-flex nib pen but I decided to just go ahead and do it. I ordered the EF nib, when it arrived, it came with the F nib. I emailed TWSBI and within 10 minutes I not only had a reply but a resolution! I was sent the EF tip right away. It was a snap to swap out. The prompt customer service by Philip was awesome and I've never had such a fast resolution before. The pen itself is very pretty, I like the transparent barrel and being able to see what color ink and how much I have left. Writing with the EF nib is nice, although I do wish the nib had a little bit of flex. All in all I'm very happy so far with the pen. Do be aware though when writing don't put the cap on the end.

Quite simply the best fountain pen in it's price range.
Quite simply the best fountain pen in it's price range. It has a good weight and heft, writes smoothly on the page, nib has a very slight flex (which serves to make writing more comfortable), holds a lot of ink, is easy to fill... the only downside I can think of is that it's not designed to have the cap placed on end, which is more of a nitpick than anything else. A great pen. I find that it pairs well with Noodler's Ink (just about any variety), which also happens to be cheap and easily available on Amazon. For $70 you'll have a writing implement that'll last you years. (If you write a lot, like I do, this is actually quite the cost savings in addition to being easier on the wrists than ballpoints.)

Writing is now a more enjoyable experience
As a first-time fountain pen user, I'm glad I went with a TWSBI. I journal daily and do tons of writing for my day job, so I figured it was time I actually invest in my writing experience. After a ton of research I settled on the TWSBI Diamond 580 for a few reasons. I'll break it down into a pros and cons list for convenience. PROS: It's a piston filler - when it comes to ease of use, you can't beat it. Price-point - for a piston filler I couldn't find a better price. Rebuildable - you can tear it apart and put it back together YOURSELF! Aesthetics - I'm an artist, so it has to look nice. This looks nice. CONS: Rebuilding your TWSBI can be tricky, but there are YouTube videos to explain it nicely. Posting the cap - just don't. Don't post the cap. It's a piston filler - I know this was a pro, but when you let people use your pen it can definitely be a con when they twist the end. You can't let people use your pen. It's too expensive and requires knowledge of how it works. Just don't let people borrow it. Another note - since this is now my primary writing pen, I keep it on my almost all the time. This means that there is some amount of wear and tear on the pen. I had an unfortunate experience where the clip on the cap got bent out of shape pretty bad. I tried to repair it on my own to no avail, so I contacted TWSBI customer service. Minutes after reaching out I received a reply and had a replacement cap in the mail - all I had to pay for was the shipping. Customer service is top-notch in my book. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Now I just need to fork over for the inkwell.

A Very Good Pen
The TWSBI fountain pen is a very good pen. It has a nice smooth writing feel. It puts just the right amount of ink on the paper. The ink filling system works super well. No ink leaks. The cap doesn't post on the body of the pen as well as it might, but that problem has been noted by other reviewers. The price for such a good fountain pen is unreal. Pens of similar writing quality made in Germany, Italy, or Japan cost 2 and 3 times as much.

AMAZING PEN - GREAT VALUE
5 Star Pen, I wish the pen cap was a little more durable - just be careful not to twist it too tight. Overall an amazing pen,

great for the money
my third pen coming from pilot metro and lamy al star and must say really glad i picked this up over the twsbi eco. feels heavy and great and just in general like it a lot more. EF might be a bit scratchy but i went with a wetter ink and now is perfect for me.
