Good compact knife - a little bulky
I've carried a pocket knife every day for over 50 years. This one is pretty good for a blister-pack knife in this price range. The best features: Black oxide finish stainless steel blade comes with a razor edge, and seems to be very good steel. Nice smooth easy opening action with thumb knob and positive open lock. I like the effective but subdued belt clip, which can also be reversed. Feels comfortable and secure in the hand. Now . . . what I don't like so much: The bulk. I compared this knife to the one I carry daily (which is by a well known high-end maker and costs about triple what this Southwire does). I'll call my old knife Brand-X. Both knives have essentially the same blade size at about 2 3/4". Measured fully open the Southwire is nearly an inch longer than my Brand-X (but remember, the blades are the same size). The Southwire is 1/8 inch thicker than Brand-X. Closed, the Southwire is about 3/8" longer. Brand-X weighs 2.6 ounces. Southwire weighs 2.8 ounces. Brand-X has a spring assist for opening. Southwire is manual, although quite smooth. And clipped in the pocket, this Southwire knife rides high, sticking up into plain view much more than my Brand-X. Both knives offer a lifetime warranty (I've actually used the warranty on the Brand-X and received a beautiful repair job and service). In summary, this Southwire CDPK Compact is a lot of knife for the money. Might be a good one to carry if used frequently and a good grip is essential. Or if you already know it will really get beat up and you don't want to do that to an expensive knife. Or if you just want to have a quality knife and are limited on what you can spend.

Great Tool For Around The Property
I am an avid gardener and do-it-yourself kind of person. I have to do a lot around our property from gardening to yard to household, so I am always looking for a handy tool to have accessible to make my work go more quickly and be a pleasure to to. Let's see how this knife worked out for me.WHAT IS THIS KNIFE LIKE?This knife is a compact pocket knife. There are two metal balls on each side of the blade to make it easy to pull the blade open and snap into place. There is a spring type of metal piece inside the slot where the knife is when not opened. That holds the knife open when in use so it does not snap shut. When it is time to shut the knife, pressing the little metal piece which has a toothy grip on it back against the side releases the knife to close it again.HOW IS THE GRIP?The grip of this knife so far has been really good. It is easy to hold and work with from cutting ropes and packages to working with garden projects too.SHARP?This is sharp for what I need it for. We also have a knife sharpener so I can keep it at top performance.IS THIS A NICE KNIFE TO USE?I have found a lot of uses for this. I can open packages when they come, use it to cut light cords in the garden, clean up yard projects when I need to quickly cut something loose. I found it useful when I was cutting loose the morning glory vines which had died leaving things held captive that needed to be freed to put away for winter.I also use this to cut small branches/twigs for our rabbits to chew on.THE BOTTOM LINEFor a handy pocket knife which is quite easy to use, sturdy, and useful, this is a nice choice. I have enjoyed having it around as I have gotten a lot of use out of it.MY RATINGFive stars. I like this knife. It feels good to have it in my pocket for all of the jobs I have to do with it.
