It can be compared to the Convoy L6 in this regard. If you need a serious amount of light with a solid runtime, this could be for you. Not for pocket carry, but if you're heading out into the dark and need a trusty companion, look no further. Good up-to-date replacement for the old long Maglites.Long ReviewBuild Quality and PackageAs with some other Sofirn lights, this is a complete package. In a sturdy box you get the light, two 26650 batteries, a two-bay charger, and a shoulder strap. The strap is a nice touch for a big light like this, but I would like to have seen a lanyard as well. The charger is basic but works fine. Interestingly it can't charge 18350 batteries, but will do most other sizes.The build quality of the light is good. I can't call it attractive, but it has a certain apocalyptic, no-nonsense quality, largely because of the array of cooling fins. It feels very sturdy, although the batteries do shake around inside the tube a bit. Both buttons feel good and the side button is lit green in standby which looks classy. It comes with a tactical ring installed, although the light is too heavy to comfortably hold it in a cigar grip. The ring does provide purchase for a simple overhand grip though, which you might be using often as the SP70 makes a good searchlight. There is a bit of sharpness on the cooling fins which is a shame, but overall, it feels reasonably premium.LED and BeamThe SP70 uses a CREE XHP70.2, which is a high draw supernova of an LED. With a textured reflector, the beam provides a good hotspot for distance, but with plenty of flood as well. You can't call this a dedicated thrower, but it certainly has reach. The tint is described as cool white, but I would definitely say it is neutral - it is warmer than the 5700k LED on my Astrolux FT03. This is a great bonus. With two 26650s this light will run for hours on anything but turbo. Brightness goes up to over 5000 lumens, i.e. very bright indeed. Seriously, it's bright. Probably brighter than most people will ever need.UIThe UI for this light has high points and low points. Basic operation: tail switch turns the light from off to standby. On standby, clicking the side switch turns the light on, holding it changes brightness, and clicking it again turns it back to standby. You can choose between stepped mode, in which the brightness goes up in steps and circles, and ramped, which ramps smoothly up, then back down again with a click and hold. Nice.The bizarre bit of the UI is the shortcuts. From standby you can hold the side switch to go to moonlight, or double click to go to turbo. But from either of these modes, you can't change brightness, you can only click to go back to standby. So if I wanted to start on moonlight, then ramp up - well I can't. I'd have to turn the light back to standby, turn it back on to mode memory, then ramp. Really weird, and hopefully fixed if there's a V2 of this light. There's also a lockout and a beacon mode, and you can access momentary via the tail switch when the light is off.ConclusionThis is a rough and tumble light for serious usage. Great brightness, run time and heft. Full package is good value. Let down by a weird UI, but this doesn't hinder its use case too much, so this a full recommendation. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Let there be light! *by S***R on 19 September 2020* This is a serious piece of equipment, well made and designed making all my past torches seem like toys. I have never paid this sort of money in the past for such an item. It does come with a charger but I use a top quality charger purchased elsewhere. Easy to use, a very good and sensible brightness. It has a shoulder strap which is adjustable and removable, very useful when cleaning up after my Lab to see the you know what when out. Has a good weight and solidity giving the feel of quality. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excelllent Powerhouse Torch *by R***Y on 6 July 2019* I have read many reviews and followed the development of this torch on Budget Light Forum, I am not disappointed.Arrived well packaged in sturdy cardboard with foam inserts; as well as the torch, there were spare O-rings, button cover, a shoulder strap, instructions and some split rings for the shoulder strap. Batteries were contained within the torch, with an insulating gasket to prevent issues in transit (remove this before use).With batteries, this a hefty light; though I don't feel I will need the shoulder strap, it's a nice addition. Good threads, anodising and seals, though no lubrication (which I added myself) is the only slight shortcoming I could see.UI is good, with a choice of stepped mode with discrete power levels, or ramping mode; an electronic lockout and beacon mode through the side mounted e-switch, Full lockout or momentary activation can be achieved with the mechanical rear switch.Whilst sold as cool white, my sample appears more on the neutral side which is a good thing to me, the orange peel reflector seems to do a good job of smoothing common imperfections associated with XHP70.2 LED - there is the usual cross in the beam associated with this LED, but it's only visible at very close range.In turbo mode the amount of light is simply terrific, I don't have the equipment to correctly measure this, but all the independent reviews I have read in trustworthy sources such as BLF confirm this light not only meets it's specification but exceeds them in the case of throw. The rhetoric I read suggests the use of higher current cells can lead to even greater output, but the average joe will surely be happy with the supplied cells.A hefty high lumen torch, long throw and plenty of spill.
