Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie

Just received my copy of Space Adventure Cobra in the mail and couldn't hesitate to watch it immediately (in English). Last time watching was more than 15 years ago, old VHS version, and was one of the cornerstone pieces of my anime watching career. I just have to say, this is a must have for any Cobra fan and the film/audio quality is much better than the old VHS. Pros: 1. Original English track (same as old US VHS release). 2. Japanese tracks; both Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 3. Audio quality for English track is excellent 4. Film transfer quality is excellent, you can throw your VHS copy out the door!!! 5. Nice DVD menu, nothing extravagant but it gets the job done. 6. Some interesting trailers are included for other anime from back in the day. I have not had a chance to watch a second time in Japanese w/subtitles but soon! Cons: 1. At times there are minor film transfer issues, it can get blurry and/or discolored at the left or right of the screen. I don't recall if this is also a problem in the original VHS or if it is intentional but it is noticeable. 2. I did not see that the trailer for Space Adventure Cobra was also included; would have been a nice addition. Overall, definitely buy this ASAP if you are a fan of this film!!!

A retelling of several episodes from the middle of the series' story arc. If for any reason you're not sure you'd like the show (although I mean seriously, how could you not?), start with this movie. If you've already seen the show, I'm not sure the movie will be entirely worthwhile unless you're a relentless devourer of media like myself ^__^

If you are a fan of the golden age of anime. (late 80's early 90's pre-cgi) and haven't seen this movie BUY IT! If you liked Golgo 13/Fist of the North Star/Demon City Shinjuku etc....It is not as violent or rape-y as the previously mentioned titles... but it is about twice as weird. Awesome imagery, tight action, star nipples, if this one doesn't have it, you don't need it!

This was the Number 4 Asian space movie of Second Week Of Spring 1982. That should tell you all you need to know.

If you're really a fan. This movie is good. But I suggest buying the TV series. If you rather not spend time on the TV series, this is a fair content for Cobra.

Kinda crazy but funny too. I ordered because the reviews where good and the price was great. Good decision. You will enjoy if your into this type of anime.

I have waited what seems like an eternity for this to come out on DVD. This Anime maybe a bit old, but makes up for it with style. With it's own soundtrack by Yello, it has an original feel. The plot is good with unexpected turns, not your run-of-the-mill stuff. If you liked things like Thundercats and Ulysses31 I reckon you'll like this.

If you have seen the TV series this is exactly what you want.It's decently animated and very artistic, very eighties in its design.The story is okay and it features lots of ladies.It feels too short at the end because you'd want more! I was definitely happy with my investment.

I am shocked to see that this film has received so many 1 star reviews! Yes, I can sympathise somewhat with the disappointment of those expecting the original dub and Yello soundtrack. However, this release does contain the original language version with English subtitles; an absolute god-send for fans such as myself who can't stand the ridiculous voice-acting of much dubbed anime. The film itself is an absolute joy to watch full of action, romance, comedy and tragedy. It tugs at your emotions and really gets you involved. Despite the fairly squashed feel of the plot (it should have been - and indeed was later turned into - a TV series to allow for greater depth and character development) it still keeps you hooked. The animation is really rather good given that the film was made in 1982. The character designs are quaint and very old school but this just adds to the charm of the film. Biggest letdown of this release is definitely the special features. The original dub should have been included alongside the new one (they did it with Akira...) and there are no extras whatsoever. Would a few character bios or the original Manga trailer (for Nostalgia purposes) have been too much to ask for? A typical bare-bones Manga Entertainment release. Still, at the current price (less than a fiver at time of writing) this is a must-have for any anime fan.

A completey Cleaned Up 1985 Version ....

Do yourself a favour and just buy this wonderful anime. Just think of this as pure fun without the need for a long and strung out storyline. Just enjoy the action.
