CURT Manufacturing 11681 Class 1 Trailer Hitch, Pin and Clip

I could not decide between this and the Draw-tite. So happy I purchased this over the Draw-tite for a few reasons.1. It is better fit, finish and quality control over the Draw-tite. Some draw tite units suffer from crooked welds etc.2. It is made in the USA the draw tite is made in Mexico.3. It has a round collar welded around the receiver that adds strength and prevents splitting. Therefore it is stronger than competitors.4. It is very easy to install. Literally 2 bolts and a ubolt. Hardest part is removing the rubber exhaust hangers and the heat shield.Overrall, this is a great quality hitch. Some people complain that it is recommended that you use a support strap for bicycle racks. I think Curt is being overly cautious. It is a good idea however to use a support strap as it is extra insurance that your bikes won't bounce around and damage anything. Buy this hitch it looks great and works fantastic.

Solid construction. Based on the picture and description, this looked like a simple bolt on hitch. I previously bought a Draw-Tite hitch for an older similar model car. The design, bolt on feature, and similar car were my basic purchase decision criteria. A few things are noteworthy: use the car model compatibility app on the Curt website or follow the link (if one appears) on the Amazon site. If you're certain the hitch will fit your car, download the installation guide. I might have chosen another design (brand) if I'd read the installation guide carefully. First, if you're mounting this model on a 2014 Honda Accord be prepared to use tin snips to modify an aluminum heat shield by the muffler(s). Easy enough except I had one muffler on the right side and the photo in the installation guide depicted a left hand muffler. If you face the same issue, you'll have to orient the heat shield correctly in order to cut away excess metal where the hitch bolts to the underside of the vehicle. Finally, Curt provides two fish wires. Installation of each mount bolt requires feeding the fish wire from the rear bolt hole toward a cutout opening in the forward end of a blind channel. At the cutout you slide a rectangular plate over the fish wire end. Then, carefully thread the carriage bolt on to the spring-shaped end of the fish wire. By pulling slowly on the fish wire, the plate and bolt will move 18 inches or so toward the bolt hole. Some things must happen in sequence: the rectangular plate has a square hole (locks into carriage bolt head) that is positioned over the bolt hole. Pulling the fish wire further will draw the bolt threads through the bolt hole. It's necessary to carefully turn and pull the bolt until the carriage bolt head aligns with the square cutout in the plate. Otherwise insufficient thread will be exposed through the hitch mounting plate. The bolt hole is only slightly larger than the bolt. One fish wire end is wrapped exactly to the shape of the bolt threads and will just fit into the gap between threads. Don't damage the shape or stretch the preformed wrap. If the fish wire is distorted it will not pass through the bolt hole. Read the instructions as many times as needed before and during installation. They are accurate but oversimplify the task. If you have one muffler, do the opposite side first to get a feel for the difficulty. Once both bolts are in place, leave the fish wires threaded to the bolt until the hitch is raised into position and the nut is ready to thread on the bolt. An extra pair of hands is helpful when making the final alignment to attach the nuts. The hitch is not light. I'm pleased with hitch performance. Price was reasonable.

My third Curt hitch installed (other two went on a Mazda fmFive and a Honda Odyssey).As always give yourself some extra time do you are not rushed. As always a cold adult beverage helps with inevitable frustrations when working on car.Great fit and finish and very happy with mount.As far as Honda Accord install - I have the “Sport Model” with two exhaust mufflers and that was by far the hardest part. The first two muffler mounts were fairly easy but the center one after catalytic converter was a pita. Honestly though I was trying to do it without lifting car and after I lifted car for some more arm room it was much better. I did use a pry bar to pop them off. Once muffler was hanging it was smooth sailing. If yiu can insist a helper for the first center bolt that’s much easier as it’s heavy to hold a bolt at same time. But that’s the only point I’d call it a two person job and you can make do solo.

Put this hitch on the back of a 2015 Honda Accord so I could tow a log splitter. Works excellent. Did have it professionally installed and has lasted me many years, but only gets used 1-2 times per year.

Read directions thoroughly and watched video on website to make sure I knew what I was doing. Whole installation would have taken me about 45 minutes, but finished job took me a couple of hours because of necessary removal of plastic underside skirt (material right under trunk, most of which sits on the underside of the driver's side of vehicle). Taking plastic cover involved 5-6 plastic rivets and 3-4 10 mm screws. Removal of plastic cover gave me access to driver side frame rail. Installing trailer was a piece of cake. Reinstalling the plastic skirt was the most time-consuming part of the job (about an hour). I eyeballed parts that I had to trim using a utility knife. First, I trimmed about 2x 4 inches around the existing precut slit around the tow hook of the car. To allow the driver's side arm of the hitch to protrude out of the cover, I cut out a rectangular piece of 1x5 inches. These two modifications to the underside skirt allowed the bulky u-bolt (along with the two flange nuts) and part of the anchor metal plate (at the end of the driver's side arm of the hitch) to fit around plastic skirt. I have watched a couple of videos on Amazon and the Curt website and no one mentions this cover. Perhaps this is unique to Hybrids or maybe removal of this item is considered not important.

Great product and easy to install. Takes a few hours if doing by yourself but the process is pretty simple. What took me the longest was getting the rubber mounts off the mufflers but after some WD40 to loosen and lube them up - they came off pretty easy. After that the hitch went on with no problem. I would recommend jacking up the car on blocks in the rear if you don't have a lift. I used my car jack to help lower the mufflers and not put tension on the exhaust pipes. So far the hitch is working great. Would be great if the hitch was a 2" versus 1 1/4" for more options of bike racks and attachments since that is more common but overall no complaints.

It took more time to gather my tools, get the car in the air, and clean up than it did to install. Truly, I got myself a little stressed out thinking about this whole thing, and having watched two different videos on installation, it was a piece of cake. I didn't even need to widen the hole for the frame pieces, though I did have to bore out the bolt hole a little.Some tips: Lube the heck out of the exhaust hangers before removal and again before re-installation. Soapy water, that one popular water-displacing formula, etc. Doing that and using a small pry bar makes them pop off pretty darn easily. Getting them back on can be a bit trickier, but again, lubrication helps.Have an extra stand or your jack handy to maneuver the hitch into place (especially if you're working solo.) Leave the fishing wire on the bolts right up until you are putting the nut on, and be careful doing so, so you don't push the bolt into the frame.If you've been wanting a hitch for whatever reason, you've got the slightest bit of mechanical aptitude, and if you think an hour of getting dirty outweighs paying someone $100 extra to do it, go for it. No regrets here.

Like others have said, it took longer to peel the ugly stickers off of it than it did to put it on. Installed myself (husband) in about an hour going at an easy pace. I backed my car on to a couple ramps, lowered the exhaust, removed the heat shield, fished the wire through the frame hole, put the bracket and screw through, bolted it on, and put everything back. I didn't have to widen the holes to get the bracket in. A C-clamp was provided to clamp to the car's tow hook. A couple basic tools.2015 Honda Accord - The top of the receiver is 1 1/2" below the bottom of the bumper. Looking straight down towards the ground from the trunk, the hitch is not visible.I haven't used it yet, but gave it a high rating anyway.

This hitch fits my accord perfectly - nice and sturdy for the bike rack and looks good with the stickers removed.Unfortunately rust showed up in the first week that the hitch was on the car - both where the e-coating was chipped and also where the horizontal plate is welded to the tube - not a huge deal to touch up, but still disappointing. It would be nice if they offered a galvanized version.
