Slim DVD Burner DB65 (888015471),Black

After probably ten years with an external drive, I found myself needing to burn a CD to provide the VA. The reviews online were very mixed until I came to the Lenovo Slim. And while I didn't plan to use it much, I also didn't want to deal with returning or troubleshooting a hit or miss product either. So I paid a little more and for that I received a plug and play product that I experienced no issues with. My Windows 10 machine recognized it instantly and I was burning CDs within a minute of plugging it in. Burn speeds seem to be as advertised and the devises, while light and a little flimsy feeling, seems durable. I sort of wish I had more use for it as it seems like a well made product.

Works fine but just feels too light and loose. Not built solidly.

This is no cheap toy, so don't let the price scare you. I plugged it into my Mac and it worked flawlessly and even axcepted my burner program I had with no problem. It is small so easy to take with you when you go. Only drawback I thwarted right away, is it lightness. It wants to jump when you eject a disc. I suggest you use velcro at home and jut put a little weight on the weight on it. I wedge it under the plug going into the computer. Nice thing is if it goes bad some time in the future it is cheap to replace.

I got this to replace an older Samsung burner before it quits. On an aging Mac Mini with El Capitan it burns and plays audio CD-RW in iTunes and burns data CD. After I learned to burn a .wav file as a data CD, that worked on an old version of Nero on (believe it or not!) Windows ME. On Debian Linux it played a CD (VLC). Later when I tried to burn a CD, it wasn’t recognized. I didn’t pursue it further. I’m sure it will work there, also, but I have some learning to do. My main use for it will be playing audio CDs. It seems well-made and I like the fact that it has a replaceable USB cord.

I have a Lenovo X201 Windows 7 ancient computer that's running on a wing and a prayer. The new Lenovo Slim DVD Burner worked easily right out of the box. Just plug and use. My computer downloaded the driver instantly and I was backing up my 2018 pictures and videos quickly with ease onto DVD's. The USB cable that comes with it is super nice and I was able to use it for another device I have who's cable just died. So that's cool. I highly recommend.

I just bought a 2015 MacBook Pro and needed an optical drive to import audio CDs and software. This Lenovo does the trick. I plugged it into the USB port on the MacBook and it recognized it right away. I was able to import CDs to iTunes and install software without issue. It's much slower than an integrated drive, but it's not annoyingly slow. I have not used it to write CDs or DVDs yet. It's very quiet in use. The drive is a bit flimsy feeling, but it seems sturdy enough for the price point and moderate usage. I haven't noticed any rough edges or operational issues. The pop-out tray is sturdy. All in all... for the price, it's a great solution for moderate optical drive needs.

This DVD drive works flawlessly and requires only 1 plug into your computer vs 2 with other models. Apparently it powers itself and reads from the same USB drive. It is small and easily fits in a computer bag. It's perfect if you have tablet (with USB) or a 2 in 1 or a laptop without a DVD drive. Absolutely no complaints! I can't see the advantage of purchasing a more expensive model when this does exactly what I needed.

Disappointed that this external DVD player did not come with the software to actually play DVDs. It plays CDs out of the box, requires a software download for burning (doing so results in some ad popups while the app is open), but there is no software to play DVDs (the whole reason I purchased it). The description states: "It offers superior CD/DVD read/write to provide stable disc burning, media playback and software installation.", which implies the media playback software would be included. I cannot figure out how to contact the seller to see if the playback software was accidently forgotten or if it really does not come with it. For playing CDs it works fine; although, it is a little louder than I would have expected.

Pros: Very slim and portable. Easy to use. No additional drivers required. Fits in my laptop bag without any hassle. Cons: Drive tray appears to be thin. Got to be careful especially when working with a laptop. An accidental move while opening the tray may result tray getting damaged. Haven't tried connecting to a TV yet. Got to follow instructions mentioned to connect to TV. Overall, it is a very nice product.

I can't believe that there's this product. I was able to see all the content of my old CDs.
