E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 Telephoto Lens for E-Mount Cameras

I bought this lens to accompany my recently purchased Sony A6000 camera. Works perfectly. 55 to 210 is a range that I principally as a wildlife photographer find incredibly useful. And whilst a Sony mirrorless camera won't be replacing my full dslr for animals anytime soon, this lens works really well, and the zoom range picks up where the 16-50 kit-type lens for the A6000 stops. Very light, nice texture on the zoom ring; I purchased my lens lightly used, and it does expand and contract really easily. I don't think the weight of the lens, its elements, or the hood (which is also satisfactory) would really cause it to travel and slip out of the set range, a lock to keep the lens in at least the 55mm spot wouldn't go unappreciated - but that's likely just me and my paranoia :/ In short; good lens for the money. Not a phenomenal one; the f4.5 - 6.3 range isn't ideal, but for what you'll pay, it's very adequate. It's light enough to not be out of place on a camera as small and equally lightweight as an A6000, but not enough to feel precarious. Would greatly recommend to any hobbyist or prosumer in the market. The number of Sony lenses are still growing, but this is a good entry in the lineup, and covers the seminal 70-200 range every camera should be able to reach out to.

Ive been saving up my money for a new zoom in lense and this one works really well! The only complaint was the box that it came in had someone elses trash in it, but even with it being used it still worked for my Sony A6000! You might have to adjust your settings a little to get a better shot but this lense just made it 10 times better!

A steal ! Was not expecting much from this lens. Put it on my A6300 and headed to a night football game and decided to try it out. To understand how this works, you need to know that ISO, Shutter Speed and Focus are your enemies during such events. The A6300 allows a higher ISO to be used with this lens, this allows for a faster shutter (100-200 for action), focus on the a6300 is amazing and sharp! I shot fully zoomed at f6.3, with an average shutter of 100 and an ISO between 4k-6k. Even though I was near the very top of the stands, my photos were sharp and the subjects I tracked were in focus, great exposure and lots of detail. With this lens (and camera) I was able to out shoot the person on the sidelines taking photos with a Canon full frame and Tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens.

Good bang for your buck. This isn't a prime lens but the autofocus works pretty well. The quality of the images produced is pretty nice. Just wish the aperture could open further, but overall I would recommend this for new photographers, or ones on a budget to be able to have the zoom lens from 55-210mm.

Would recommend using this lens in combination with a stabilized body or on a tripod. Even though the lens technically has OSS built in, at the far end of the telephoto ranges the shake on an a6100, even standing still, is enough to blur the image. However, the reach on it is outstanding and is perfect for sporting/spectator events in good lighting. The lens is NOT the sharpest, which is expected for a budget telephoto, so I would either not expect to have very large prints with this unless you're enhancing the image with AI. But I would recommend it for someone trying to figure out if long-distance photography is important to them, or if it only makes up a small portion of their activity. Would probably not recommend it for professional work.

I took the attached using the Sony 55-210mm/4.5-6.3 APSC lens on a Sony full frame A7 camera. The lens then becomes an 82.5-315mm lens, which is even a stronger telephoto. The lens performs well on Sony A7 full frame cameras. You get the advantage of cutting out some of the weaknesses in the corners, getting a larger telephoto equivalent, as well as getting more depth of field, making it a little easier to actually focus on the subject. The low f stop is a weakness, in lower light the lens starts to struggle a bit, which is true of many telephoto lenses. This is ok up to around sunset, when things start to get noisy. I haven't tested the new Sony 70-300mm/4.5-5.6 OSS full frame lens, which is about the same telephoto length, mainly because its about $1000US more. I suspect for most people, unless you blow your photos up to poster size, it doesn't make any practical difference. (So why buy the full frame camera then? Well because there are some full frame lenses where the price difference just isn't so steep, like the Sony 28mm/2 full frame lens for ~$450, the Sony 35mm/2.8 full frame (price varies ~$500-800), and the Sony 28-70mm full frame lens for about ~$300 within a kit. I'm just not at all sure you get much more value if you pay an extra $1000US for the Sony 70-300m full frame, than this 55-210 APSC lens. It's the same sort of argument going up from 4K to 8K on TV/video, does it make much difference anymore, or is the quality much the same for a significant difference in price???).

A nice zoom lens. With body made of Mag-Alloy, silent AF motor AND built-in Image Stabilisation (IS). On top of everything, this lens has "Focus Tracking Compatibility" with E-mount Cameras, which is of GREAT help, when shooting moving objects (in decent light) at the 210mm end. The kit SELP16-50 lens and this lens are more than adequate if you are upgrading to APS-C Sensor based Camera and want to shoot much more interesting photos than your P&S or Bridge Camera. For a reach of 210mm (315mm Full Frame equivalent), this is the cheapest Native Lens. The SEL70200G is massive and sells for around Rs 1 Lac. Certain adapted Zoom Lenses are much better Optically, cost around Rs 5000, but, without the Stabilisation, difficult to have crisp shots above 135mm when used hand-held and in low light. Normally for 210mm, you need to choose 1/210 seconds shutter speed without IS. With IS,I can slow down to 1/50 seconds, at 210mm. With Stationary objects, hand-held shots are possible even at 1/20 seconds (if I remember to choose ISO 3200, hold my breath, use focus peaking and X9.6 magnification), even with illumination from JUST ONE 36W Tube Light. I generally prefer adapted wide angle primes at 28mm and the E-mount 35mm. So this lens is not frequently used, but, is always in the Camera Bag, because of its compact size and low weight. THAT, is the key-point for this Zoom Lens. Just buy it. For those planning to buy Adapted Zoom Lenses: 1. Buying an used and fully manual Zoom lens will be cheap but will get you lot of frustrating images above 150mm, if lighting conditions are bad and you shoot hand-held. But, it will be a fun tool to learn Photography. Seriously. 2. I originally considered "Auto Focus Canon EF-NEX adapter plus Canon EF 70-300mm IS Lens OR Canon EF-S 55-250mm". As per DXO site, performance wise, the EF 70-300mm IS Lens is very close to Canon "L" variant ! If you do not mind the size and weight, go get it along with the adapter. But, mostly the lens will be kept at home, I guess. And, the Canon EF-S 55-250 leads by a thin margin optically. The Sony wins due to faster AF, Compact Size and Focus Tracking. If you have a Sony APS-C sensor based E-Mount Camera, and you do NOT have a "Canon EF-S 55-250 lens", do not think too much and get this lens.

What a pleasant surprise! I had high skepticism when buying this lens because to be fair, in the world of photography this lens is dirt cheap. I wasn’t sure if this would be a genuine Sony product (it is) or if it would even produce any decent quality pictures (it does). So I did not have high hopes for superior image quality and clarity. But overall I like the compactness and autofocus capabilities of native e-mount lenses, which is another reason why I bought this. It did not give me the color pop or contrast of my other lenses, like Sony's E 10-18mm F4 OSS, or the Zeiss FE 55mm F1.8, so don't expect to use this for sports or wildlife photography unless the subject is stationary. However, the images are more than reasonable quality and for a long range e-mount telephoto lens you cannot beat this price. In fact, its image quality is comparable to the kit lens included with the a6000 and a6300, the E 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS Power Zoom Lens. So most buyers of this lens will be extremely happy with it, as I am. And I have the Sony a6300 camera. The lens hood is nice to have included. The lens is packed well in a genuine Sony box and nothing seems amiss. I am very happy with this purchase! My only one complaint is that it’s a bit slow on autofocus, but other than that I have no real complaints or reasons not to buy this. So for those looking for the best valued and priced Sony e-mount telephoto lens available right now, look no further. I highly recommend this lens to those interested!

An excellent buy for my SONY alpha 6000. Fantastic picture quality. They complement my camera's anti shake feature and I got some really lovely pictures from ICEtrain traveling at 260 kmph in Europe. Light weight and fixes on the camera body in jiffy.
