I decided to give this a shot since it was on a promotion on facebook for a significant cost reduction/rebate. I had recently purchased a bayite version of a ferro rod that is the same size. It does make a very good spark so that's number on priority here. Now lets talk about the tool it comes with. It isn't the best in terms of spark production or ease of use. To create a spark you must first scrape away an area of the black coating, and the tool fails to do this as is. I generally carry a knife so that isn't an issue, but the fact that it should be able to do it on it's own without the need for another tool (knife) or say a rock in the wilderness, is of some importance. I highly prefer the bayite tool, but as far as ferro rods go, this is a solid ferro rod. There's no bells or whistles with the cord, and it's not as useful as the bayite's (paracord), but it holds the ferro rod and the tool together and I can wear it around my neck if need be so that's a plus. I'm not a great fire maker, but this ferro rod will put out enough sparks to light a fire for sure, and the length and diameter of the rod will make it long lasting. You can't go wrong buying the Holtzman's Ferro Rod if your goal is to start a fire without having a source flame to do so. It's a great survival tool that will surely last years to come.

Much larger than I was expecting. This thing is gonna last me awhile.

I purchased this to throw in my truck as the price was right and it is larger than many others on the market. This item arrived in an expensive looking, fitted case. The rod is heavy and the striker with lanyard is well made. The quality of the product, as well as the packaging is far more than expected. I rated "easy to use" with 3 stars as it takes those without prior experience using ferro rods a bit of practice. I ended up giving this to my son-in-law as a gift. He also commented on the quality of the item. I would recommend this for friends and family. And I'll order another for myself!

The media could not be loaded. My son loves it. It worked great on a recent camping trip and he’s used it several times to start fires in our fire pit.
