Programming Amateur Radios with CHIRP: Ham Radio Setups Made Easy (Amateur Radio for Beginners)

Good, brief, complete and useful
Normally when I order a book and it is short, if complain. But this book is perfect - Just a few dozen pages but in reality CHIRP is not a huge program. This book is concise and to the point, covering the area needed but not skipping past anything important. It even goes into some detail on installing on Linux and MAC OS. I am a Ham instructor and was looking for a good reference for people looking for more instruction on CHIRP and this is it. I do recommend the book for anyone learning Ham radio and interested in Chirp as a resource.

Well presented and easy to follow
I ordered this book the other day when I was having severe difficulty programming 2 Baofeng Ham radios. I ordered this book to try and help me program them. I had ordered another Ham radio and it arrived the day before this book. It turns out I had a couple bad programming cables, but I still have 3 other radios that I have to reprogram and I am sure that this book will help me greatly.

If you have Chinese radio, this will help you program your radio.
I highly recommend Brian Schell's "For Beginners" books for the new HAM operator. They are straight forward and answers many questions for non-techie operators! If you own a Chinese HAM radio, i.e., Baofeng, Pofung, etc. this will help you understand programming your handie-talkie and many mobile radios. The CHIRP program is free and updated daily

Great Starter Book
They have YouTube videos, but I enjoy reading and found this complimented very well for a novice and helped me to make decisions on how to get started

Good dope!
This book was actually more helpful than watching a bunch of YouTube videos. My suggestion is to read it through once and then go to work on your radio. I had fits with my Baofeng before I sat down and read the book, but it had nothing to with Chirp. I was able to resolve my issues with my Baofeng using the info in this book. My radios required that I be in Memory mode to upload, but try both VFO and MR, and don't give up right away. It took me several tries to get my three radios to upload, but it did finally load all the frequencies I want. Worth the money and more.

Very useful!
If you're new to using CHIRP, get this book. Not overly technical, direct and gets you programming your radio in short order.

All the info you'll need
This isn't a long book (50 pages or so), but is engagingly written and gives you everything you need to set up and use CHIRP - including importing from RepeaterBook and CHIRP stock configs. There are also resources for finicky USB serial devices, and discussions of D-STAR-specific radio fields.
