And they weren't that old. I tried multiple things trickle charge regular charge with no success. I think I'm going to switch brands to Odyssey. **Q: Which is recommended for a small RV trailer the 8006-006 or 8016-103?** A: I no longer recommend Optima batteries. The manufacturer cheapened the components and raised the price. They now last no longer than other, less expensive batteries. In 2008 they would last 12 to 14 years. By 2014, they lasted about 2 years and cost $267. But my 2008 Optimas in my boat still work perfectly. **Q: Is this a SC34M? All I see is "34M" IS it the same?** A: Why would buying the battery from Amazon have anything to do with its quality? Amazon gets the product from many of Optima’s Authorized dealers so… saying “Don’t buy it from Amazon is a ridicules resonance. **Q: Will this battery start a backhoe? As long as you disconnect the battery during extended periods of non-use, it can sit there and hold a charge for many months. Completely draining a battery is a good way to ruin it. Some things like stereos or the diodes in your alternator will slowly drain your battery when it's not being used regularly. So I disconnect the + terminal every time I park the boat. Then I use a "BatteryMinder" at 2 amps to trickle it back up to full charge with the BatteryMinder set to "AGM" before I tow the boat somewhere to use it. This is an AGM battery. AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Matt. This kind of battery seems to hold a charge a lot longer than a typical battery. And it cranks over the engine with a lot of power. I've always had pretty good luck with Optmas with the red top in cars, but decided to go with this blue top one for my boat. AGM batteries are tougher against being banged around like in a boat, a race car, a dune buggy, etc., compared to regular car batteries. And they're sealed, so you don't get a big mess of corrosion on the terminals.
