A very good old-fashioned strainer - just what I have been looking for!
This is an excellent strainer. Good volume, not overy deep but also not too shallow. I have been looking for a replacement strainer for the longest time - my grandmother's finally gave up the ghost (it is 30 years since she passed & the strainer was old then). I don't know if it is from the same maker, but everything about this satrainer is identical to her's. I'd estimate that the original lasted about 60 years. If I get 1/3 of that service from this strainer, I will have had more than good service from it. lol Construction is sturdy, it can be filled completely and handle resting on a bowl or pot without strain. I have already used it lined with a light weight cloth to strain a small batch of stock - held the bones & aromatics with no trouble at all. This strainer has a double mesh which also makes it very good for straining pulp for jelly making. In the product description it reads, "Good quality product." That is not an empty boast. Most of those who pan this item seem to be expecting a chinois. This is not a chinois, it is a strainer. [NB: If you are concerned about rust, do not wash in a dishwasher & do not let it soak in a pan of dishwater - the failure is not the product's but the user's. Treat your tools well & they will outlast you - see grandma's strainer for an exemplar. ;) ]

I like it but....
I like it but...the point where the strainer meets the handle is narrow and if you're straining heavy pasta, it can bend. It's metal so if it bends too much, it COULD break. Veggies seemed to be lighter and not bend it. Pasta that had cheese and greens in it? A little heavier.I wasn't sure what to expect. I really like it at first glance. It feels good in my hands (Large hands) and it's the right size so it's not too large and it's not small. It's a medium sized one that will handle pasta or veggies easily.Sort of easy to clean. Broccoli bits were a little bit of a hassle but rinsed out with effort.

Extremely Durable and a TERRIFIC Price!
This is a TERRIFIC strainer. The construction is solid. By itself, the wire frame is strong...it's built out of heavy gauge and has a really firm feel to it. But add to that a wooden support down the middle of the handle and you have a really concrete grip that doesn't budge. The sieve portion is equally solid. The outside circumference consists of the same heavy wire gauge, and the interior strainer consists of a double fine mesh that is extremely strong. It is the ideal sieve for almost anything I can think of that you might wish to strain: noodles, rice, veggies, meat...I can't imagine the item that could bend it.It also has "grip" tabs at the end that allow it to cling to the edge of the surface of whatever container you're pouring it over...say, a mixing bowl, or a pot. It will not relinquish its grip or slide off due to the bent tabs. While I would definitely vouch for its functionality in a kitchen, I am going to add what I think is a real testament of its durability. I've bought TWO -- but not because I expect it to break (anything but!). No -- in fact, I use them for straining out impurities in my HORSE TROUGHS. This would include hunks of hay, dirt, even wood or other harsh, crappy junk that falls in there. Despite the punishment these strainers go through they have shown almost NO signs of wear.I am amazed that this is only costs $6.90. If you have Prime, the PRICE includes shipping...you simply can't beat this bargain.

GOOD STRAINER, But if you're going to bounce heavy things in it up & down, use"two hands"one on the handle & one on the rim
This strainer has a double mess / screen, the inner most screen is fine and the outer screen is larger and I assume it is there for support and to strengthen the strainer, overall it seems to be made well and I like the wood inlay in the handle, it makes for a nice grip .If you think of the handle pointing downward at the "6 O'clock" position, then there are two loop type hooks at about the10 and 2 O'clock positions that make it possible to support this strainer on the rim of a bowl or pot for straining or rinsing.I can see one potential weak point that other reviewers have also mentioned, the spot where the handle connects to the rim of the strainer does have a little give to it, So if you are going to put a heavy load in the strainer, I don't think it's a good idea to try and hold the strainer by the " handle alone". There's a reason the manufacturer included support hooks at 10 and 2 O'clock , Use Them!!!I'm giving this Strainer 4 Stars + 1 extra Star for the low Price = 5 STARSWith a little common sense I can see this strainer lasting a very long time. I recommend this strainer, specially at this price.I hope this review is helpful.
