How is it secured to the ground?

I used electrical conduit, sinking 4- 4' lengths into the ground about 2.5', leaving 18" sticking up, then placed the remaining 18" into the hollow center of the arbor legs. It's stayed steady and standing well through a full year of seasons. **Update 2/2015: After 2 years, it is still strong and stable, white and clean looking. I'm considering buying another for my grape vines to grow on.

Can one person (woman) put together alone?

yes, do the sides & top on a flat surface separately then put it together outside using self tapping screws supplied,should have a drill for screws,dig 4 holes for posts to anchor in ground

WOuld this arbor stand on it's own if used for an indoor wedding with flowers on it?

If you added planks to each side under the legs to give it more stability, don't see why not. The planks could be 1" X 4"'s about twice as long as the arbor legs are. Long corner braces could be screwed to the planks - then to the four leg sides to stabilize it from wobbling too much from side to side. After the wedding, you would still have it to place in your landscape. Double whammy!

Why doesn't this company ship vinyl arches to California?

It may be because California laws restrict the shipping of any chemical that might remotely cause cancer. Just a guess.
