Echo dot clock
I have a 2nd generation echo dot. It fits nicely and easily into the opening at the top of the clock. There is ample room and surrounding where the microphones can hear you and you can hear the speakers as well. It kind of creates the smartphone in a bowl effect, so it does sound a little louder since it's in a box.The clock is easy to set up and read. It does have various brightness options as well, plus an easy switch for daylight savings time. Unfortunately, the clock doesn't set itself through the echo dot. The echo dot is just powered by the clock.Overall, it is a nice clock and does everything it is supposed to do. Plus, it was a pretty good price. The only downside is that it is not quite as robust as one would hope. I can understand how some of these may have broken if you are constantly plugging and unplugging the power cable in and out. If you keep it in one spot, it should last a while.I have two of them, one in black, and one in white, and they both look great.

See and Hear
Objective was to maintain a bedside clock I could easily view, during the day when in the same room, to see what time it was, but not having to physically strain trying to look at it when awakened from sleep in bed at night. Also nice to accomplish this without extra clutter on the nightstand. Echo Dot Gen 3 has no visual display, yet tons of information is available, if willing, by just talking to It. Combining digital visual clock stand and Alexa, in one compact package, gives it all. Alexa, time?....and you know it without even opening your eyes.

Add a clock to your Echo Dot
It helps to read the directions! When I first took a look at the base/clock for the Echo Dot I was a little confused. Don't worry, it actually works with my Echo Dot so I can check the time during the night without asking Alexa.Construction is a little bit "light". I have my Echo Dot hooked to auxiliary speakers and with the rear door of the clock unit removed there is room for the Aux cable.

No audio passthrough; updated 7-18-19
Has a power pass-through but no audio pass-through. The internal connectors are a power supply (useful) and a micro USB (not useful for an Echo Dot 3). As a result the sound is muffled by the body of the clock. Disappointing when the description specifically says it's compatible for 3rd gen Dots (which it is only partially).Update: I now realize it's not meant to have an audio pass-through. What looks like speakers on the exterior is just a mesh to allow sound to pass through more easily. It also comes with sticky pads to put underneath the dot to raise it up. I was suing one, but I'm going to add the other two so the dot is further out of the case. Increasing the score to 3 stars because it does exactly what it says, it just isn't very aesthetic or clear.

Works
Two power connectors connect to smart speaker and then the power cord connect to either the barrel power connector or you can use the micro USB connection. These power both the clock and speaker. No connection for Nest Mini. The Google Mini does work.great for our guest room.

Should cost less
The cover in back has a chance of being lost/broken. The date and time should be displayed together. I would be a good value at $14usd.

Great dimmer feature
This product is exactly what I was looking for. It turned my Echo Dot into a clock I can use in my bedroom. I use the Echo to set the alarm. The clock stand is a small size and takes up little space on the nightstand. I love that the dimmer control is a dial that is easily and silently turned down at night.

Works perfect with Echo Dot 3
Works just like explained and easy to set up. Not sure what the date and year functionality is yet...but I got it to have a clock in my living room and it holds my echo dot 3 perfectly! I did not need the little pads they included but some other speakers may need then. Easy to follow instructions to set the date and time and to hook up.
