I'm rethreading a standard string of pearls. Should I get this size 2 or size 4?

It depends upon the diameter of the drilled hole in your pearls. If you still have the thread that your pearls are currently strung with, measure that and go with that diameter. If you do not have any of the original thread, look at the pearls from the center of the necklace and measure the drilled hole. Order the thread that would fit the pearl's hole. Go with the smallest hole size of all your pearls. This is the advise I can give you.
