This is an excellent little tool for simple cultivating jobs
Excellent little tool! I bought it for clamming, finding quahogs specifically. We frequently go clamming at a place close by to us in the summer, it has all types of clams; razors, pacific razors, steamers, all sizes of quahogs, and the stray surf clams here and there. The easiest clam to "dig" is a quahog since they sit only a couple of inches under the sand. I was previously using a small handheld mini three prong garden tool just to drag through the sand if I thought what I saw was the 'show', a simple drag of the metal prongs will give a distinct ting when it hits a quahog, then you simply reach in the sand and pull it out. Easy enough, but I'd have to bend down every time just to drag the rake through and then bend/squat again to dig the clam out. After hours of bending and squatting my legs would end up getting really tired, and my knees would be in pain. This amazing little cultivator has changed the clamming game for me, now I only have to squat to dig the clams, not to rake the sand too. This tool is light, easy to carry, but has a good sturdiness to it also. The extending handle is just the right length for me (I'm 5'7") to drag through the sand without having to bend my legs or bend over using my back. The handle can be a little tricky to extend, especially if it's tightened up really good, it takes a strong grip to loosen it. We haven't had any issues with it not staying extended as other reviewers have stated, but we haven't had it that long either, so time will tell. Overall, this is an excellent little tool that can easily be used in soft soil and/or sand to dig without having to bend. However, I don't think it would be too good for digging through very dense soil as it's not that heavy and would probably require a lot of arm power. For a basic rake job it's a fantastic tool!

Works for my purposes
So... I'm not using this like ya'll are, so this review may not be entirely relevant to you. That said, I am putting in insulation in my attic. There are already antique remnants of loose fill laying around. I use this to rake, or more often push the loose fill into a pile, then measure, cut and install batts of insulation to fill the space I've just emptied. I can't stand up in my attic. Luckily there are a few places I can pretty much sit up, and many I can't. So, on to the review. Between the braces, cables, ducts and other structural members, I can't always get specifically, absolutely where I'm working. This rake is short to haul around without catching on stuff but can extend to give me the extra reach I need occasionally. It fits well between joists, and is narrow enough to maneuver around junction boxes I have to clear at times. If something I need is out of reach, I can hook it with the rake as opposed to taking 5 minutes contorting around to get to it. You understand the problem with being in the attic is the possibility of suddenly going from attic sweating, to downstairs with broken bones. The less I have to move around the better my odds. The 'Open' arrow on the handle is not backwards. The arrow is on the handle, not the extension. The handle twists that direction. Not rocket surgery. There's a detent internally I can feel when I twist the handle. You twist to lock it, and a little more twist lets it lock into the detent. It hasn't collapsed on me, but I'm pushing loose fill insulation with it and sometimes moving 2x4s or romex. If that was enough to collapse it, it'd already be on it's way back. To repeat, I'm not digging in the dirt with it, and I'm pushing with it as often as I'm pulling. It feels quite sturdy. A good bit heavier than I had anticipated. Not a deal breaker but a little more consideration crawling around in my attic hauling, it, insulation, tool bag, tape, and the only true essential a big LED light. Heavier than the old dried out 6' cedar picket I had used to poke 8' batts of insulation away from me to inaccessible places, but far more maneuverable. So, it's gotten 'light use' from me but not light handling. Dropped, tossed, banged into braces and whatnot, and sweated on. It's holding up quite well and doing the job, once again, For My Purposes. YMMV

excellent garden tool
I couldn't decide between the Black and Decker cultivator and this one... I actually needed two... one for me and one for my "hired hand. This, too, was "perfect tool for those of you who need to weed/ cultivate small tight areas of the garden and spare the bending over that so often causes back pain. A great product at a great price... with great results. You can't go wrong with either, but if you pressed me into choosing one, I think I liked the Black and Decker better for being a bit more ergonomic and overall design.

Handy Cultivator for Small Beds
I got this cultivator after we put in two raised beds in the backyard. I love it's small size and extension, which makes it so handy. I'm a little short but when the cultivator is fully extended, the length works fairly well for me. I think that a taller person might find this cumbersome to have to bend down further to work with this tool. The construction of it seems pretty sturdy; I have not had any problems with it so far. The twist and lock mechanism for the extension works very well. This has been great for raking up the dirt and adding in fertilizer to the vegetable beds. This cultivator would probably not be as good for harder soil and large planting areas but definitely works for your small gardens. Overall, it's a very handy tool for light gardening work!

Quality Construction and Materials --- But. . . . .
Well Made Product, but the Metal Tongs are too far apart to work well to pull weeds. It would also be helpful if the Handle was longer. If the Tongs were a half inch closer this Cultivator would be great. Probably works well for cultivating a Garden before Planting, but difficult to use to extract weeds.

Great cultivator to use on the gravel in my front yard!
Once I figured out how to open and extend the handle, it was LOVE! I’d been looking for something to rake my gravel yard with as here in New Mexico we use a lot of gravel to xeriscape with. This cultivator is just perfect for replacing gravel and nudging it in place and for removing the gravel if I want to dig a hole! The tine spacing is just perfect and it feels very sturdy. It does need some lucid instructions, however. The “open” on the handle is pointing the wrong way! I feel the price is more than fair and I expect this will give me lots of years of use.

Well-made Cultivator - Hope it lasts many season
I really like this cultivator! It appears to be well-made. It functions as you'd expect a cultivator (oh ya!). The price is good, especially when you compare to big-box store brands like at CT and HD and the like.

Great quality rake
I’ve been using this for almost a year for my dog poop scoop business, and it is 100% the best purchase I’ve made!! It’s sturdy and fantastic quality, has great weight to it but not too heavy. I love that you can extend or compress the handle to your preference. I wouldn’t be able to do my job without this!

worked well for us in the garden
Purchased the tool to stand up more and weed in the garden and if you are 6 feet tall it falls short , would be nice to have a second level of adjustment for tall people . Overall though it works very well .
