This pairing of the Cult's Rick Rubin-produced Electric with Peace, the Steve Brown-helmed sessions that featured earlier, completely finished versions of most of the same tracks, seems like it should have been released ages ago. Peace (aka "The Manor Sessions") was supposed to be the follow-up to 1985's hit Love (which Brown also produced). The band were unhappy with the sound of unfinished product and hired Rubin, who insisted they re-cut the entire album. The Cult re-recorded seven songs, wrote one more, and re-recorded "King Contrary Man," a leftover from the Love sessions, and the atrocious "Born to Be Wild" cover. Some of the Peace material -- four tracks previously surfaced as B-sides to Electric's singles -- and another five appeared as The Manor Sessions EP; the full album was issued in the six-disc Rare Cult box in 2000, but has been out of circulation since. When comparing these two offerings side by side, it becomes glaringly apparent that the Cult really needed guidance in the studio. They certainly had most of the songs, but they had no editor, and the sonics on Peace make it sound like merely an extension of the previous album, even as the songs the band were writing evolved. In actuality, you can hear strong influences of AC/DC, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Led Zep & Billy Idol. Great vocals, pounding drums, and crunchy guitar riffs in every song. If you've never listened to this band, do yourself a favor and get this album along with Sonic Temple for possibly the best Rock experience of your life! Electric influenced many more of the best rock groups to follow this 1987 release. Soundgarden, Guns, Alice In Chains. All of these groups were major commercial successes. I don't really know why The Cult never hit bigger. True they weren't as commercial looking as the other groups with they're more gothic look...best way to say it is they were definately before their time. They brought a RAW, ernergetic, original sound to a glam,hairsprayed,polished sound and look of the 80's rock groups. My favorite's off of this A - - kicking album are ...the whole damn album!!! "Electric Ocean" is a killer smash of a tune, I love Ian's voice on anything...on this album he was just GREAT! Peace Dog is also a killer song. There is Great guitar throughout this entire album. "Love Removal Machine" is probably my favorite...it's very hard for me to say that because i love the whole thing. "Lil' Devil" is also a tune that helped me wear out a cassette tape as one of the other reviewers hadsaid he had done also. "Outlaw" could be this groups anthum! Also give a listen to the harder version of "born to be wild"....5 star high energy kick a - - Album!

Thank God for Rick Rubin. He took The Cult in a new direction & came up with 2 of the best rock albums of the '80s (Electric & Sonic Temple). Great Classic Rock Album From 1987
I like every song on this album although I will admit , there are some I like better than others . For example , even though I do like The Cult's 1987 cover version of Steppenwolf's 1968 Rock classic Born To Be Wild , I do not absolutely love it . The original song is better . I recommend this album for anyone who is a fan of The Cult . Sonic Temple from 1989 is a bit better than this album , I must admit . However , this album is still great in its own right . Sure Sonic Temple is darn near perfect but I'll tell you , this one comes close . If it wasn't for their less than flawless cover of Born To Be Wild , I would have given the album all 5 stars instead of only 4 . You also may find that some songs are better than others but I'm sure you'll like most of the songs on this album , even if you don't like all of them , just as I don't like Born To Be Wild except for the guitar solo . This is definitely worth buying . Most songs on Electric are absolutely excellent . Definitely one to add to your Classic Rock collection .

Im my opinion, this IS their best cd. Was fortunate enough to see them live a few years ago. You can not go wrong with The Cult…

I'd join the cult
Wasn't what I was listening to in 87! At that stage I was still finding my taste and Led Zep, Sabbath, AC/DC were what was going on for me in Oz. Although we do have a great alt rock program called Rage which highlights bands from artists. The Cult were always on the roster, but just the classic - Sanctuary and Love Removal machine. So after years (and funds to buy what I want now), this is probably one of their best albums. It's got that punk/new wave/rock feel to it. And of course the cover born to be wild. Although I think the Tatts did a cover about the same time too! Leaving nothing from what they left - if you like rock, it's a really good rock 80's album, but not GNR or Crue type 80's metal rock. Think this one shoud be in everyones CD rack

Luv this album
One of my forever favorite albums. If you like basic straight-ahead rock n roll, you will enjoy the Cult's Electric. Nothing fancy, everything where it's supposed to be.

Je suis un grand fan de The Cult! Je trouve que le groupe est mésestimer et n'a jamais vraiment eu la notoriété qu'il meritait! Cet album aux guitares très AC/DC s'avère jouissif et excellent. Recommandé forcément.
