P & O Orient Liners of the 1950s and 1960s

Bill's done it again! . Another 'potted' history of some of our favorite ships and companies. Great insights from some of the 'originals' in the crew and passengers who sailed on these beautiful ships. Interesting comments about 'Chusan" being one of the line's most popular ships; the differences between P&O and Orient Liners; Transpacific services...Read this one in conjunction with his "SS Canberra" and "East of Suez" for a fairly complete history of post war Euro - Australasian services. Best coverage since "Home and Back" and "Ships that Passed" back in the 80s. Paperback format tends to limit the text to the essentials but some interesting interior shots help. Nice to see 'Iberia' on the cover - always the Cinderella of the fleet

Not what I expected,more in depth description of the technical history of the ships would have been nice though but interesting none the less.

Sadly another of Bill Miller's recent "by the numbers, fill in the blanks" books. If you have never read another book about P&O and Orient Lines post war fleet, then this is a very basic overview and a pleasant read. Aside from a few personal quotes, there is nothing really new here. As usual, the publisher, Amberly continues to cut corners with many tiny pictures and chopped off graphics. It's a decent book but could have easily been much better.

Comprehensively covers them all; but there’s not actually all that much on any one of them (even the last, big ones).

I enjoyed this book as I love sailing on P& O modern liners and found their previous ships very enlightening. Enjoyed seeing the older accommodation and dining rooms, so different from today.

An interesting nostalgic 'look back', browsing through the photos of the ships and ephemera capturing those times well. Most of the illustrations I've seen before, however, a few nice one's I've not come across previously.Text fine containing some interesting facts - not a reference book as such but good for a light look through from time and time...

A useful summary of the liners that were so active for P&O and Orient Line throughout these years - great liners of their day, and I enjoyed seeing them with some of the reminiscences provided in this book.The only drawback is the format of the book - which does not help to display some of the photography.

Brought back a few memories of travelling to Australia.
