It's a Grind. (In thee best possible way)
Total quality. Luxury feel and weight. Black looks rich - goes with any decor. Adjustment from coarse to... much finer than I would ever use. When you twist the bottom-most section of the mill to adjust the grind, you can easily feel where the mechanism noticeably starts to tighten. Stop tightening at this initial resistance, (3rd finest setting, with 2 more finer than that) and this classic-looking Peugeot mill produces a shower of cracked black that's perfect... not too heavy per twist.I don't cook anything that needs a crazy amount of black pepper so I don't want to be super careful about accidentally adding too much.I have a spice rack where I kept my last, cheap all-in-1 peppercorn "plastic grinder/container". The space in my rack is a little tight, and I was happy to see this 'real' mill fits neatly in the space where the plastic one was.Filling it is a breeze. It takes somewhat less than a full spice bottle of whole peppercorns. I am far more partial to lemon pepper than straight cracked black, and so my next mission is to find the correct mix of orange peel and peppercorns, so I can use this mill daily to grind lemon pepper in my salads, vegetables, etc. I actually don't use black pepper all that much. Eggs is one of the only dishes where I DON'T use lemon pepper. The directions are printed on a small, micro-mini booklet insert that you might need some serious magnification to actually read. One notable instruction is not to use it to grind anything but pepper. Peugeot offers a lifetime warranty on the actual mechanism. The only con (not really) for me is, I had to get used to the fact that you cannot grab the very bottom of the mill when you twist to grind. The bottom ring is how you adjust your grind, so you need to hold the mill anywhere above the lowest 'ring'. Otherwise when you twist to grind, it changes the adjustment. But unless you have sirius memory issues, you learn that after the 1st or 2nd time you use it.

Assign it in the will or claim it in the divorce property inventory.
This is heirloom quality! Will it to the grandchild that helps you most with technology you don't understand how to use. This should be on all wedding gift registries and the one who did the most cooking during the marriage deserves it in the divorce.Useful: the many settings that are easy to adjust; opening it and securing it closed; the neck to pour the whole peppercorns is large; sturdy, good weight and real wood; smooth feel when the gears grind; full-hand feel. You may not be able to easily purchase a new Peugeot automobile in the US, but you can get this lux pepper grinder.

Great grinder and it comes with an American WARRANTY
I've been limping along with two pepper grinders gifted to us many years ago. The tall dark one we've used for black pepper and the shorter "beigier" colored one for white pepper. The grind of the tall one can only be adjusted by tightening or loosening the nut on top which also secures the grinder's top. The more you grind, the tighter the nut gets and the finer the grind. The shorter grinder has a chrome collar just below the top with F, M and C settings which work okay, but I end up inadvertently turning the collar as I grind, thus changing the fineness of the grind. And the varnish on the outside of the shorter grinder has aged so that it is now sticky to the touch. Hmph. So, I decided to splurge and get one each of the chocolate brown and natural wood colored Peugeot grinders for black and white pepper respectively. Good choice. Love them. They grind both types of pepper very easily, thank you, the mechanism works flawlessly and they look very handsome on the counter by the stove top.Adjusting grind fineness or coarseness is accomplished by turning a wooden collar at the base of each grinder to the desired setting designated by tiny vertical markings from I to IIII. You have to experiment to figure out if I is coarse or fine, but it's figure-out-able and I won't spoil if for you. I suspect too that the markings will wear away over time thus only increasing the Gallic fun. I had a friend who owned a Peugeot 304 back in the 1970s and the car had similar little idiosyncrasies. Like the ashtray with 14 moving parts.Anyhow, I love the grinders, I use them daily, they feel good to the touch AND the vendor that sells the chocolate colored one, the actual subject of this review, provides a WARRANTY for American buyers that does not require you to try to communicate with les braves gens de Peugeot. Bravo!

Poor functionality and consistency, would rather use disposable
The peppergrinder is aesthetic, but the functionality is poor. Loading peppercorns in is difficult, but that's to be expected from a pepper grinder this style, and not something I count against it. However, it is terrible to use. After loading the hopper full of normal peppercorns (Tellicherry), it will load a few peppercorns into the burrs and you get some pepper, but then the peppercorns will consistently and frustratingly stop falling into the burrs. You have to shake the pepper grinder really hard to force some peppercorns to fall into the burrs, and you have to do this EACH TIME you use it and MULTIPLE times per use. I probably spend most of my time with the pepper grinder just trying to shake the peppercorns into the burrs. I would much rather use a disposable pepper grinder, which is at least is consistent and not frustrating to use. Some reviewers have commented that this grinder was intended for Sarawak peppercorns, which seems to be a smaller peppercorn, and since they would drop into the burrs easier. First of all, it's INSANE to expect your consumer to have to buy more expensive, special peppercorns for your pepper grinder, instead of the readily available peppercorns you can buy at the store. Also, using the Sarawak peppercorns STILL did not improve the consistency, and I found myself shaking the pepper mill all the sameOverall, it's a pretty aesthetic looking pepper mill, but makes for a lacking and frustrating experience. I'm not sure if this is a quality control problem, since some other reviewers don't seem to have the same problems that I do, but the risk of getting a pepper mill that's similar to the one they shipped to me should deter you from buying this.

Reliable brand. Nice model.
Used it to cook tonight. Good action. Feels natural. Adjustable. As with all grinders, loading peppercorns is a frustrating task. The adjustable grind is a rotation rather than a click like on a British model. Grinding is easy and quick. Produced pretty consistent pieces. Nice finish on the wood. Expecting it to last. Not sure if purchasing through Amazon preserves the warranty. Pretty excess good (and on sale).

Quality and pepper grind
What an amazing project, this thing is a pepper grinding MONSTER! And it is very adjustable, the quality is built to last a lifetime. The only reason a gave it 4 stars and not 5 is that the top screws come loose as you twist out the pepper over time “ honestly not a big deal, but you do have to periodically adjust that knob”I like the product so much that I purchased another one for a family member as a gift. This product will consistently give you pepper flakes from very, very small to big chunks depend depending on what you want

Good quality
I love the design of this pepper mill and the grind is perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. I had seen these at Sur La Table originally and opted to order on Amazon. Definitely worth it.

Very good.
Horribly expensive for what it is, but it does work very well. I consider it to be a somewhat crazy purchase! A French classic! I found that if pepper stops coming out (that was a surprise for something supposed to be so effective) the answer is to turn up upsidedown and give it a good shake. Seems to be better on a coarse setting. Should last for years (they say they do...). I'm enjoying it anyway. A lot more pepper in my dishes and faster! Jolly good.
