Touch 'n Hold Smooth - Heavy Duty Door Closer System (Black)

This tool has been an awesome quality of life improvement for my grandmother. Being able to keep her own door open by herself so she can push her walker though means she doesn’t have to wait on anyone to be able to go outside or check her mail! She’s been loving how easy it is to use. It’s was also very easy to install and I wish we had done it sooner.

This is an awesome door opener. The only thing I cannot speak to at this time is its longevity. It is "heavy-duty" rated, so I am expecting a satisfactory lifespan. The instructions were adequate, but a how-to video would have been appreciated. The one video at their website was for a different opener. I needed an opener that would open a full 90 degrees (and this one does) for accessibility reasons; it will be used by a person with a walker and mobility scooter. (I will be adding an exterior ramp). Since this was a replacement for an existing (worn-out) door closer, I purchased the same color (black) and was able to use the existing door jamb bracket with it. [See photo]. I decided NOT to try to use the old bracket attached to the storm door, but to use the new bracket that came with the new door closer. It seemed it might need more finagling to make it work with the old backet, and I did not want to affect its operation. The hold button works great. Opens to a full 90 degrees. All-in-all, a very nice product. NOTE: I also added a new "wind chain" as part of this project. Sensible to have the extra layer of protection for the new opener, and also for the storm door itself.

Fairly easy to install

i have had this about 2 or 3 years now i adore this door closer i it did get stuck once or twice when i first started using it i lightly tapped on the mechanism area the round bulb of the body on the back while opening the door to get it release - note do not tap on the switch that would probably break it anyway i only had to do that 1 or 2 times and it never did got stuck again i think it should come from the factory with instructions for opening and closing printed on the device because if someone comes to your house and they cant get the door closed they can look up at the instructions i just cut the instructions and taped it on that came in handy until it became second nature how to close after locking the door finally i put on neon pink identity stickers on the activation button so i can quickly spot it i like that a lot

I've had to replace this part on my screen door a few times and this has been the best one so far. Easy one touch push button stop. Super stupid easy to change out. If I would quit leaving the door propped open when big winds come by, I wouldn't have to replace it as much. 😀

I bought this instead of the replacement part for my VERY heavy Larson door. The one that came with the door never felt sound, and had a ratcheting mechanism that I believe should not have. That sound was the locking feature slipping, likely due to the weight of the door. It blew out all it's grease in less than 2 years. The Greenstar Touch and Hold was rated for heavy doors, so I bought it instead. Easy to swap out. I keep waiting for the door to slip when propped open, but it's not. It sounds and feels secure, none of that "ratchet until it catches" business. I'll be buying one of these for my other storm door, too. Only downside is color selection. No complaints from me on that, though.

While I love the button feature of it, it is cheaply made. I have brought 3 of this design in one year and all 3 had the shaft bend within 2 months making closing impossible.

I bought this closer so it would keep the screen door from whacking me on the butt before I can rush myself inside. I thought the problem was that my old closer had died. Turns out, this one works exactly the same. For the first 2/3rds of its swing, it swings FAST, then it stops... and moves at the speed you've set it at via the speed adjustment screw. Do people want their screen door to shut quickly for the first 2/3rds of the swing? The fast closing screen door has actually gouged my arm with its handle twice lately (the motivation for buying a new closer). However, I am not sure if this is my misunderstanding of how a screen door should work. Honestly, I'm literally afraid of this door and may just remove it. The only reason I'm not giving this a 1 is because I am questioning myself as much as the closer. p.s. Instructions were mildly hellish - vague terms, confusing diagrams. Thankfully instructions are brief.
