The Airplane Alphabet Book (Jerry Pallotta's Alphabet Books)

Absolutely Stunning Illustrations!
My two-year-old son absolutely adores this book, even though the writing is directed at children above his age. He wants to go through the alphabet over and over with me (and yes, there are airplanes for every letter, including the Xandu and the Yak), stopping at his favorites. No jet aircraft are included in this book, with the possible exception of the Osprey, which the text admits is an unusual inclusion in the book; however, both military and civilian propeller-driven airplanes are included. The text, as I mentioned, is clearly aimed at children older than two. I am very pleased with the text; it is clear and simple but it doesn't talk down to young readers. It gives interesting tidbits of information about the various aircraft and explains the basics of how airplanes fly.Although each letter is prominantly featured in both upper and lower case, the focus of the book is really not the alphabet. The alphabet forms a backdrop and theme for the gorgeous illustrations of airplanes. The realism and minute detail make this a book older children, who already know the alphabet, would like to possess. In fact, I know quite a few adult aviation fans who would love to receive this as a holiday gift! My son easily spends a half an hour to forty-five minutes just looking at the pictures--a VERY high compliment from any two-year-old.I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves airplanes. It would not be my first choice for teaching my son the alphabet, but he is certainly learning to love books and to love airplanes!

Fun book for adults and kids!
I enjoyed reading this book and my nephew loved it! One reviewer mentioned one page from the book they didn't like because it mentioned a plane crash and asked, "Is everyone ok? Did the pilot survive?" Apparently the reviewer found this offensive and disturbing. I didn't have a problem with that page, especially since on the next page you find out they are talking about a model airplane! There is no reference in this book to actual plane crashes if you are concerned about that.

This is a great gift for kids who are interested in aviation
This is a great gift for kids who are interested in aviation. It does a really nice job providing some context and history around the planes featured here, while keeping it at a kid-friendly level - my son's favorite page was the "Spruce Goose!" The illustrations are aesthetically very nice. All the planes in this book are propeller-powered, with a combination of military and civil aviation.

Take out the scary page
I bought this book for my 3 year old twin granddaughters who are fascinated by planes. They love it & we continually page through it. We've added questions like, "Where's the landing wheels?"," Where's the pilot?", etc. thus engaging them further.I almost didn't buy it because of the review citing the "plane crash". I agree with that reviewer, not a great visual for the targeted audience. However, there is a simple remedy. The offensive reference is a front-back page that doesn't involve any alphabet planes. I simply tore out this one page & it's good to go.I think any toddler or preschooler would love this book.

Incredible book!
The illustrations are bar-none, the best I've seen for a children's book that weren't actual photographs. I'm an aviation nut, and got this book for my toddler. Some of the words of course are a little big for her just yet, she's 2, but it will be absolutely amazing for when she is putting all of the words together!

If you child loves planes, this book is a winner.
The artwork is detailed and interesting to young readers. And a great way to learn the alphabet.

The illustrations are wonderful, the choices of airplane are interesting
My whole family loves Jerry Pallotta's off-beat alphabet books. We have several A-is-for-apple type books, but these are just so much richer and more complex. The illustrations are wonderful, the choices of airplane are interesting, and I always feel that I've learned something from these books. I think the construction truck book is my favorite, but they are all wonderful.

Not interesting for toddlers
The media could not be loaded. This is an ABC book, so I thought it would be good for my four year old grandson who loves airplanes and has learned to recognize his ABCs. The descriptions and text are more appropriate for a 10 year old. The problem of courses is a 10-year-old would not like an ABC book.
