Stick to one a day. They really do work.
I'm going through menopause. These have taken away the rage and calmed me down. But they make me nauseous and put me to sleep. THIS IS NOT THE 5 HTP FOR ME BUT I GAVE IT 5 STARS BECAUSE I'M GUESSING THAT THIS IS WHAT ITS CUSTOMERS ARE LOOKING FOR. Unfortunately for me I prefer the other brand I bought off Amazon a few years ago which was actually 750 mg not 400 mg. I recommend this product for anyone going through menopause if they have a problem with sleeping.

This stuff is a life saver for people that are not very responsive to SSRIs. I use it daily and take it at night since it is tryptophan after all. Helps encourage sleep no doubt and only has a mild grogginess of you take it too late and wake up too early. Mild stomach upset if on empty tummy so I suggest taking w a cracker or two. Otherwise I highly recommend for anyone struggling w mood imbalances or even after a weekend vacation of partying just to have as a stabilizer. This has replaced pharmaceutical need for me thank goodness. But please always talk to a doctor first before trying to replace any medications as it can be dangerous to just stop meds but know this can also be coupled w meds, w dr approval, to help assist a prescriptions intent. ***Never just stop any prescription based on a randoms review!*** Lol.

This is likely affective at half the dosage. It is for me
I deduce that it is affective. However, after taking 2 pills followed by dinner, I came to the strong conclusion of rather: Take 1 pill, twice daily. For me, two pills (800 mg) altered my sense of normalcy. I suggest 1 pill at a time first....

Helping me sleep
I originally bought this for appetite suppression but it didn't work for that. I'm in perimenopause and have had trouble staying asleep for at least 1 year. I remembered that I had these supplements and started taking them at night. It's only been a few days but I'm sleeping so much better. And when I sleep well, I don't have a crazy appetite like I do without enough sleep.

Exactly what I was looking for. If you have a sensitive stomach I will say, I usually never have problems. But these give me a slight tummy ache for about 30min. If you have a sensitive stomach these might not be for you.

No longer effective! Supplier/formula issue?
Quality or concentration has dropped significantly, this is not the same product I have been taking for over a year. My last order from February is lacking concentration or is just ineffective. I take this for migraines and old bottle of this brand (200 mg dose) actually works, while taking this new bottle supplement is like taking a sugar pill - no effect despite being higher dose (400 mg). Was my first choice for HTP 5 for a few years, switching to NOW as this Amazon/Horbach brand has lost my trust. I saw another recent review by someone who takes htp5 for muscle cramps, and they too question if there is any htp5 in the pills they tried in 2025 - other brands work, this one does and I think it's because they changed concentration or supplier and new batches are just not effective. If I had more money I would send in a lab to get it tested to see just how much htp 5 is there now vs older bottles from previous orders placed in 2024. Do better! I can't return as window passed, wish I could get a replacement to see if my bottle was just a bad batch...

A Relaxant
I use 5-HTP in the evenings to relax and head towards a night of sleep. It has a moderate relaxing effect, which is enhanced if taken with Valerian. If you have problems with sleep, or need some mild relaxant, the 5-HTP may help. There are many manufacturers. I use this one because it says that it is lab tested and follows GMP (good manufacturing practice). This gives some assurance of quality that not every manufacturer provides.
