Can you add a camera to the vehicle once completed?

Should not be a problem to add a camera :-)

where can i download the software? It does not seem to be on their website.

Go here: https://www.elegoo.com/download/ and click on the "Elegoo Smart Robot Car Kit V3.0" picture. Then the download will start. Be sure to follow the instructions in the download on how to bring in the zip library for the IR remote control. Also, make sure you disconnect the Bluetooth module when you are uploading programs to the robot. It causes problems when it is connected.

I am considering this for my son. What type of computer/laptop would work best for programming with this?

The software isn't hefty at all. It's just C coding. You'll be fine with any new standard (even entry level) PC, or one that was made in the last 10 years for that matter. Between home and work, I've programmed an Arduino on Windows XP, 7, and 10 with no problems. Make sure you have an internet connection to download libraries, USB to connect the board, and one of the above operating systems and you'll be rolling!
