4 Years ago when I tried to read this book ...
4 Years ago when I tried to read this book I would have given it 2 stars. I just picked it up again to browse because I didn't get very far. When I took the advice, "close your eyes and turn up the sides of your mouth" I felt something slightly pleasant immediately. So I did the belly-breathing meditation with the little smile and it began clearing out my chronic cramps for which I take Klonopin. Sure they will come back during the night would have paid $10 for that tip alone.Whatever problems there are in this style of presentation it has put the dan tien back in focus and at 73 i don't need any more pills.jf

Good book on the dan tien
I’ve read this book twice and perused it many times. The first read through was eye opening and a confirmation of the information contained in similar books I’d been reading around that time. With my second read through, a few years later, I was able to understand the material with more depth of understanding based upon daily practice. I appreciate the simplicity and ease of the author’s writing. It is an enjoyable read.

Love the intent...but falls short.
What I found frustrating about this book were the seemingly unrelated tangents that felt more like opportunities for the author to make opinion statements about other topics than they were related to the theme of the book. I appreciate the author's willingness and enthusiasm but to me there was a lack of depth, understanding and maturity. For a much deeper treatment on the subject I would recommend Karlfried Graf Duerckheim's works. Also, it would have been helpful to have more specific methods discussed. Bottom line: disappointing read, but enjoyed the author's enthusiasm and good intent. Refreshing to have any western author discuss Hara/Dan Tien. Bravo for the attempt but would not recommend for serious student.

my chi experience at Canyon Ranch
Two years ago I had the opportunity to spend some time at Canyon Ranch and had the most magnificent experience while there. One of their healing touch practitioners worked on my body. She was in full meditation and with her hands pressed around the edges of my body. In five minutes time, I began to experience (with my eyes closed and fully dressed) shoes off.) . . . shades of purple running across inside my eyes. Then, in my abdomen ripples of energy that were physical , , ,energy that she had engendered by her healing practice. It was a strange experience and it must have been the chi that she invoked in my body. Just that experience made me realize that, indeed, there is such a thing as chi. I suggest the reading of "The Intention Experiment" by Lynne Mc Taggart for a comprehensive understanding of this phenomena called dan tien. There is so much that we still do not understand about the energy selves that we are. It is a fascinating experience to learn more and more about the wondrous selves that we are !!!!!!! [...] 5/26/08

Dan Tien light
This book is a nice description of a centered way of life, and a way of bringing mind and body into synchronization. However, it says nothing about the TanDien other than it's your belly and you should listen to it. On the whole disappointing, yet like many spiritual books, full of wisdom.

EXCITING!
AS A HEALING TOUCH PRACTITIONER, I HAD HEARD OF THE DAN-TIEN, BUT THERE WAS VERY LITTLE KNOWN IN THIS AREA BY MY CIRCLE OF PEERS. I WAS EXCITED TO GET THIS BOOK AND THOROUGHLY ENGULF MYSELF IN IT. IT IS TRULY A CUT AND DRY SHORT-CUT TO HAVING A QUALITY LIFE BASED ON OUR OWN RESPONSIBLE NATURE. I LIKE IT, AND I INTEND TO FOLLOW IT.

Informative for beginners
I’m half way through the book, somewhat repetitive, but does inform and a great for reading before bed, not overly stimulating. Days definitely flow better when connected to the hara in the morning.

An Introduction to the Lower Dan Tien
This is a great introductory book for those starting on their journey into working with the subtle energy centres of the body. How ever it is worth mentioning that there are in fact three Dan Tiens.

Extremely Disappointing
I was looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately it is big on promise & delivers very little in my opinion but don't take my word for it, here is a quote from the book that sums it up, "You will not find many formal exercise routines in this book. To be centered and in touch with your Dan-Tien minute by minute is a subtle art that requires improvisation and imagination".The book doesn't throw much light on how to cultivate that art.I should have have paid attention to my Dan-Tien (gut feeling) & not bought the book.

Needed information on the Dan-Tien and this book provides it!
I was advised to purchase a book on the Dan-Tien centre and find this publication helpful.
