Big Horn 19066 Taper Jig

For an occasional user this taper jig is well worth it and I made a series of precise cuts. What made me choose this model vs others it has a reversible adjustable stop and reversible handle so you can use it on left or right side of the table fence. Most others are fixed (even the $100+ models). Like others I had a roll pin fall out of the section where the two legs are hinged but with a small pin punch & hammer you can expand the roll pin while installed and then it won't fall out. Just be careful to place the washers under the slide bar so it's the same height both sides. The angle gauge is only an estimate. To set an exact angle, I used a digital protractor. If you try and twist it to prove ts made of aluminum you can, but on a flat table it's fine.

I used this to apply a small taper to 1.25" x 8' glass and stone tiles with an inexpensive wet saw. Mine didn't fall apart and assembly was straightforward. The washers on the angle adjuster need to be placed so that the two legs remain in the same plane, or it will rock on the table saw. Once I set the taper, 1/8" in 22" in my case, it did not change and produced consistent results. The end result was excellent and will work well for my purposes in a very visible location. The angle gauge is not really useful but the taper can be set very precisely using a drill bit and a tape measure. Excellent jig and a great value.

I have owned the other Aluminum Taper Jig with the Screw On stop, and I recently purchased the Rockler Fiberboard Jig which went in the trash can. Bear in mind I use these for production work, and I make my living as a professional cabinet builder, and although some people are not happy with this one, I LOVE it. If you need to do tapered box fronts as I do, this unit is perfect. The removable and adjustable stop is the best part of this unit. All taper jigs are a pain to adjust, but with a little patience and time, it can be done just right, and this tool does the job. I was considering modifying my first aluminum one to make the stop easily adjustable, and easier to swap to the other side. This one does all of that. For the money, I find this one the best one so far, and if it gets lost, I'm buying another one. Whoever came up with the adjustable and easyily removable stop, my hats off to you! VERY NICE JIG!! Take your time when setting up your tools, the payoff is a finer end product.

Screws come use while using so it will not keep angle.

Excellent tool! It works great. It is pretty lightweight so it is not super heavy duty for production. For one off stuff it was great!

Everything was OK except there was a square head bolt missing. Am going to try to find one at the hardware store.

I HAD 2'' X 30'' MOLDING HAD TO CUT 1\4 '' OFF AT AN ANGLE. IT WAS VERY UNSTABLE I USED PAINTERS MASKING TAPE TO SECURE IT TO METAL. I COULDNT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT TAPE

The unit comes disassembled. The hinges are steel slotted spring pins. Upon arrival one of the pins fell out. Either the pin was small or the hole was big. Upon trying to open the spring pin, it fell apart into 2 pieces. So I needed another. There were no assembly instructions, just a picture but it is easy enough to figure out, although there are 2 pictures and they differ as to which bar things are mounted on. You just need to make sure the center slotted strap goes on the correct way so that it doesn't jut out. If I was serious about woodworking I would buy something else or make a jig but it's OK for quick and dirty. I wouldn't use this for large pieces though.

This taper jig works very well. It may be relatively hard to find but it does a great job on a table saw. This might be one of the least expensive versions of this jig but it is very adequate for the job. I am happy to have it.

A simple jig for a tricky task.Works as advertised, simple to use.If you need dead accurate angles don't trust the angle guage, use a protractor to set.In 99% of the cases this doesn't really matter as long as all the cuts are the same.

perfect jig for tapering table legs, works very well after the learning curve on scrap wood. Exactly as described and good value.

The angle strip is longer than the width of the tapper jig with it is closed.
