Love using Veggies instead of Pasta!
I recently started eating healthier and saw this product and thought it might help me with my bread issues by using zucchini and other vegetables in my Italian cooking instead of pasta. The spiral slicer came and I was impressed with how sturdy it looks and all the extras. I really appreciate the bag because when I saw the cap I knew it would be hard to keep up with, but with the nice storage bag I won’t lose it. The small brush is also handy as well as the peeler.I decided for my try I would do zucchini spirals to take the place of spaghetti. I washed and cut the ends off my zucchini and started twisting the zucchini through the spiraler. It takes some practice to get it right but I think the more I use it the easier it will be in the future. The cap was kind of hard to use and by the time I got to where I needed to use it the zucchini was so far in the cap didn’t work well. I steamed the zucchini (ended up being about one cup) and used about ¼ cup of my homemade spaghetti sauce along with 4 oz of crumbled ground turkey. I sprinkled the top with Parmesan cheese. It was so good! I was so shocked at how delicious it was and much I loved it.Cleanup was easy. I was able to rinse most of the leftover zucchini out of the spiraler and the little brush got the rest. I will definitely be using this a lot.The only cons I had was the cap was hard to use at the end to use all the vegetable but there wasn’t a lot left and you can slice that up easily by hand. My main complaint was the booklet that came with it. The print was so tiny I couldn’t read it. I have reading glasses and even with those I can’t read small print. Luckily you guys sent me an email with the recipes so I can get them from my email. In the future I would recommend you making the insert bigger with larger writing for all of us old folks who have bad eyesight. And the slots could be larger. Both slots I felt could be larger; possibly twice as big as they are now.Fantastic product. I can’t wait to try some more new healthy recipes using vegetables instead of pasta!

It would be great for a couple or if you just used it ...
This does work well, however, it is EXTREMELY slow going. It took me about 15-20 minutes to do enough zucchini to make "pasta" for a family of 4. It would be great for a couple or if you just used it once in a while. If you plan to use it a lot or have a large family, do yourself and your hand/wrist/arm a favor and go with one that has a handle or an electric one. It is also extremely sharp. I sliced my finger by not paying attention for a second. Totally my fault, but just beware! I returned it because I needed a larger one with a handle. I purchased Paderno World Cuisine A4982799 Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer and am much happier with it. Sliced two huge potatoes in a couple of minutes.

SIMPLE THINGS ARE BETTER
I HAVE USED SEVERAL OTHER TYPES OF MORE COMPLICATED SPIRALIZERS IN THE PAST. THIS IS MY FAVORITE MODEL. IT'S OF SIMPLE CONSTRUCTION AND EASY TO USE. ITS SIMPLICITY AND EASE OF USE MAKES IT MORE PRACTICAL THAN MORE EXPENSIVE, INTRICATE MODELS. SO SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND TROUBLE TRYING TO DECIDE ON WHICH TO BUY...SOMETIMES SIMPLE IS BETTER.

Fails on every level
I tried this unit with carrots and it wasn't worth a darn. It took a lot of arm muscle to twist the vegetable only to get shards of carrot shred instead of curlicues. I did get one long string out of it, but it sure didn't curl up. Very disappointed since so many others rave about it. It might work on zucchini but I sure don't need a kitchen tool that can only do one thing, especially if that one thing is awkward, erratic, and difficult to do. And by the way, the peeler that's included is also worthless. My rubber handled OXO peeler is far superior. Finally, the "4 books" that are included are merely several very small 2-sided cards and a 9x6" paper folded into 16 pages with font so small I can't even read it with readers AND a magnifying glass together!

Ours doesn't work unfortunately
Bought this as a gift for my girlfriend. Unfortunately she has followed all the instructions and it has yet to work in any way. It just gets jammed really easily. Spring the extra couple bucks for one that has a crank and a base. The more sturdy the structure the better it seems to work from others I have seen

Nice Zucchini "Noodles"
This works exactly as it should. Do be sure to read the instructions. If you want "noodles,", you need to use the larger blade. The small blade creates shredded pieces. A friend recommended cutting the noodles into manageable lengths as you're twisting the vegetable. It's harder to cut them if you have just one long set of noodles at the end.I used 3 medium sized zucchini and got about 2 cups of noodles. The noodles don't taste like pasta, but they also don't taste like zucchini, sort of a neutral flavor with the texture of al dente pasta. So, they worked well with the meatballs and marinara sauce we had. The cookbook that recommended this device said to microwave for 2-3 minutes. (The Sprializer leaflet provides recipes that use the noodles raw.) They were good cooked, but be sure to drain them. The peeler that came with it is wonderful. It's much easier and faster than others that I own. Someone mentioned that the blade is plastic, but I think that's just the handle. The blade appears to be ceramic and it is very sharp.Everything arrived quickly. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Compact, but not great for all vegetables
I chose this spiralizer because if its compact size. I live in a small apartment with little room for extra gadgets. That being said, this product is quite compact and comes with a brush to clean out the center where the "core" of the vegetable goes. The first time I used this, I tried to spiralize cucumbers. The spiralizer turned most of my cucumber to mush and I got very little cucumber "pasta" back. The second time I used a carrot. There was a lit of wasted carrot, even though I used the vegetable cap that the directions suggest using to prevent cuts and "minimize waste". I've attached photos of my results with both vegetables. I will try to use this product with a couple other vegetables before deciding whether or not to keep it.**Disclaimer: I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
