Pop-Up Design and Paper Mechanics: How to Make Folding Paper Sculpture

I just started reading the first chapters of this book and am already impressed with its presentation, illustrations, and easy to follow instructions. Great to learn the terminology of the process first; and I was happy to learn I have nearly all the tools in my stash to begin making my first pop-up examples/applications. Author suggests reader make a booklet showing each of the different applications for future reference--this is such a smart idea. It is a well-organized book and the author's remarks are reassuring that this book contains simple steps that can develop into more complex designs. I'm ready to make this the most used book in my craft room!

I’ve been interested in making pop up cards. This introduces some fun shapes and gives instruction on making pop ups. I tried one and see that pop ups require a trial or two to get it right, but then…wow! You’ve got it!Probably not for small children who would get frustrated.

OK book. I found some instructions hard to follow, otherwise good book.

A good information about how to do and understand Pop-up mechanics

Great for beginners, steps are clearly elucidated and illustrated, and gives additional considerations for each type of fold. Proceeds in a logical order that builds on previous material and gives ideas to modify structures to make interesting pop ups. Easy to follow and a good reference to come back to even after you learn the material.

We bought this for our son-in-law for Christmas. He has made some really nice paper sculptures.

I had always wanted to make my own personalized greetings cards, especially pop-ups. The author presents an easy, step by step approach to creating numerous examples. There is a depth of understanding and relationshipc onveyed in this book. You are shown as well as told how to create popups and more than that, how each mechanism works, how approaches are related, and how they may be combined for different effects. I have found an undiscovered country of paper mechanics, paper physics, paper art and new expression. I've already applied lessons to Valentine's Day Cards, elevating the mundane to two dimensional expressions. It has been big fun and my brain is delighted to explore the wealth of new possibilities. The author kindly has created a video series available on you tube. I'm more reading focused in my learning so the book is irreplaceable, but his videos led me to the book. He is generous in sharing his knowledge and making it accessible.

Nachdem ich die Youtube Videos gesehen hatte, habe ich mich zumindest Kauf des Buches entschieden. Es ist sehr praktisch, die Techniken einfach nochmal fix nachschlagen zu können und nicht immer noch einmal das richtige Video zu suchen. Alles ist super erklärt, in Wort und Bild. Englisch sollte man natürlich verstehen können :)
