Great when paired with another learning avenue
I'm currently using this book in conjunction with Rosetta Stone's German course work, and this workbook is proving invaluable to me as an individual with no prior German language education. I've found that if I do about 30 minutes of Rosetta Stone coursework, then follow up with some work from this workbook, that I'm getting a complete educational experience similar to when I learned Spanish in high school, only now I can go at my own pace. By itself, this book would be a bit tricky if one isn't familiar with pronunciation guidelines in German, but it's a perfect asset alongside Rosetta Stone (which I also recommend).

Great basic grammar for beginners
I purchased this PMP text after a first attempt with _Basic German_ (from the same series). My task this summer is to teach myself the equivalent of a first year of German so that I can read articles in German and I've only been working with this book for about a week (up to Ch. 7). This book is nicely organized and graded, moving from easy grammar and drills to progressively harder grammar and drills. The repetition in the drills made memorizing vocabulary and verbs easy. I come to this book with language experience in Spanish, Italian, and Latin, so I'm not learning grammatical concepts from scratch, but I think that this is a great grammar for beginners.

Drill, Drill, Drill: for me a good thing.
I can see why some reviewers would be unhappy with Complete German Grammar. I think the problem is that the book is slightly misnamed. Learners who have already had some German might find the exercises too basic and repetitive. For me, though, it has been a godsend. I've always studied the Latin-based languages, so I was having a difficult time getting jump-started with German. All the other instruction books, even those touted as ''beginner'' or ''elementary'' started out with so many vocabulary lists and grammar rules that I quickly began to feel overwhelmed. Practice Makes Perfect: Complete German Grammar, however, starts out very easy and there are dozens of exercises that thoroughly re-enforce small bits of information before going on to another brief section on grammar. I also think it does a pretty good job of teaching the more difficult aspects of German, such as the cases. Again, what I like is that it presents very small chunks of instruction and then drills the heck out of them. For me that works. I learn a lot from repetition and it's hard for me to memorize a bunch of words or rules all at one time. For others, though, it may be overkill. Some like the instruction to move quickly and absorb the information as they go. I bought several introductory German books, but I settled in on this one, because it didn't frustrate me with too much at one time, so that I avoided feeling defeated and unmotivated.

Complete German Grammar is pretty easy to follow
So far, this volume seems to be the easiest for this beginning German student to digest. The book makes a lot more sense than German for Dummies, which I found to be a frustrating mix of folksy language and inadequate explanations.Complete German Grammar is pretty easy to follow; it starts with topics like the gender of nouns and definite and indefinite articles. There are many helpful exercises which help to cement your newly found knowledge.Note: the Kindle edition is not really formatted for Kindle. Tables of information are basically at a 2pt font, and since they are formatted as pictures, there is no way to change their size.

I love this book
I used this book in conjunction with some old textbooks to teach myself German. I love this book. It has a lot of explanation and a lot of exercises which really reinforce what they are trying to teach you. I love the fact that the vocabulary builds on itself in the book so not only is it helping you with the Grammar but it also helps build your basic vocabulary. This is an excellent book for anyone learning German and if I could only recommend one book to have, it would be this one. I have a number of books in this series and have only worked with a couple and I really like this author and his style of teaching and especially all the exercises.

Great summary
I'm studying German again after many years, having studied it in high school and undergrad. I've been working my way through this book, doing every exercise just like I was in school again. It's been great to refresh my memory (and teach me a few new things along the way). I can't imagine using a digital version of this book, though--the value is in the rote exercise work.

Lots of exercises!
I absolutely love this book! I just start learning German, and it has tons of exercises to practice.I bought a Kindle version and it's good enough to be usable. The only issue I am having is that some of the exercises are posted like images, and the resolution is a bit too low.

You need this book
This is the best resource I have found since I started learning German 5 years ago. It explains things that my native German speaking friends d never explain. They would usually say “that’s just the way it is”.
