Heal yourself
This book is a must read for professionals as well as most people who are looking for healing without drugs,. surgeries etc. Not entirely a story of 'miracles' although some are impressive stories of healing. Not a cure-all but a true book of HOPE for those who are looking for alternatives.

I've studied Dr. Sarno for many years and I can say I've had fantastic results. I have also suffered from depression and anxiety. This book really explains how these psychological conditions are also related to the Mind Body Syndrome. I would highly recommend this book and the workbook. Make no mistake this is life-changing information. Anyone suffering from these conditions or painful conditions owes it to them selves to purchase and study iths fantastic material.

Truly excellent
A concise, clear, straightforward, intelligent, humane explanation of mind-body disorders, their origins and manifestations, and how to treat them. Free of the ego, exaggerated claims, and trite advice that characterize so many books in this crowded field. And, a profound rebuke to the medical profession that has failed so many people who suffer from the ravages of emotional issues and stress (like me) by misdiagnosing their symptoms, viewing them in isolation, and substituting psych drugs for meaningful therapy directed at the person. A must read for anyone interested in, or suffering from, mind-body illness.

Business as usual
This is the same as my first review, but am just correcting some typos and also inserting an update that is now happening that may interest you. It was only a matter of time before Dr Sarnos' precious book "Healing Back Pain", which literally gave me my life back a few years ago after two years of lower back pain, was noticed by an opportunist with the right credentials and sales savvy and connections to use it as a springboard to enrich himself. I refer to Dr Schubiner here, in his book and videos who claims to be a disciple of Dr Sarno and so he appeals to those who may have read Dr Sarnos works, and who have probably found much early success, and maybe now have repeated symptoms. Those folks may now think, like I just did, that the good Dr Schubiner's websites and impressive sounding book now offer an accelerated path out of their personal hell. I will not go into the endless pablum which fills much of Dr Schubiner's work, except to point out a repeated theme from Dr Sarno's books. That is, for TMS (relabeled by Dr Schubiner as MBS for some reason) to be defeated, it is required that the patient ONLY realize and accept that his subconscious is overactively trying to distract him in order to prevent traumatic emotions from surfacing. Although Dr Sarno does state that a very few persons will require professional psychotherapy because of the horror of re-feeling the suppressed emotions, nowhere does Dr. Sarno EVER suggest that the patient should attempt, alone, a self diagnosis and confrontation of his core repressed unintegrated trauma, with him or her trying to "arouse and confront" the angry painful alone, as that is totally unnecessary for the process to work. Yet Dr Schubiner here does appear to be advising taking that dangerous path. Yes, Dr Sarno does emphasize the need to become more aware and accepting of one's PRESENT day issues with anger, fear, and grief.I am now doing the TMS/DR Sarno process again (as Dr Sarno anticipated) , after a new major life change which left me with urological issues which a urologist cannot explain. But and after one week into it am seeing the urological problem slowly withdraw while I am confronting my present rage. So now I just wake up twice a night, not five times. My message to all of you ......please read and re-read the original works by Dr Sarno until they become integrated into your life, and before they are out of print because they threaten the entrenched medical establishment too seriously.

Amazing
This is a wonderful book and CD. I was skeptical when I bought it but it helped me greatly and still does. The book is a text and a workbook, the exercises are insightful and very cleansing. The meditations on the CD are life affirming. I would recommend this book to anything struggling with anxiety, depression and/or pain.

Not that great
The techniques given in this book are too complicated and lengthy...If an anxious person had that much time & patience, he would not have become anxious in the first place...Total waste of money....

Excellent book. Mirrors my experience with Georgie Oldfield, SIRPA
Highly recommended book to help understand the relationship between stress and learned pain and how to address it. Also recommend Georgie Oldfield's book 'Chronic Pain: your key to recovery' which is less american
