Smokey Banks (Michael Biehn), a former world champion bull rider, has spent the past few years messing up his life with drinking and gambling. Now he's been assigned community service with Mike Stillwell at the Saguaro Boys Ranch for stealing their truck. Since his only other option is jail, Smokey reluctantly agrees to the terms: stay out of trouble and teach Danny O'Neil (Brock Pierce) how to ride a bull. He has no idea how drastically the people at the ranch are about to change his life. . .especially one 14-year-old boy. Review: Perhaps the finest film from World Wide Pictures - The film production company known as World Wide Pictures is the cinematic outreach branch of the Billy Graham crusade organization. Throughout the years, they have issued a number of fine motion pictures, each one with a special and unique spiritual message. Titles from this compny include "Time To Run", "Joni", "The Hiding Place", "The Prodigal" and "Road To Redemption". However, the one film that I consider to be their finest work is a 1997 movie entitled "The Ride", starring actor Michael Biehn as rough-and-tumble rodeo champion Smokey Banks. In the story, Banks has had a very successful career on the national rodeo circuit. But, he hits a major pitfall when he ends taking a pick-up truck that does not belong to him. After getting caught by the law, he is sentenced to serve community service at the Saguaro boy's ranch for taking their truck. With the only other option being to serve time in jail, Smokey reluctantly agrees to take his place at the boy's ranch. While he is staying at the ranch, he agrees to help teach a young 14-year old boy named Danny O'Neil (Brock Pierce) learn the ways of successfully riding a bull. However, complications arise because Smokey has a very difficult time trying to give up his rowdy lifestyle, mainly consisting of drinking and gambling. Over the course of time, Smokey begins to appreciate the couple who run the ranch and the boys who are staying on the premises. But, it is his special bond with Danny that eventually opens his eyes - and his heart - like never before, and teaches him a very valuable, spiritual lesson. The film also features a cameo appearance by Billy Graham's son, Franklin. This DVD includes the complete motion picture in full-frame aspect ratio, "Meet The Cast" information, a "behind-the-scenes" featurette, theatrical trailer and photo gallery. Highly entertaining, "The Ride" stands on its own as a modern film masterpiece, that brings you the world of the rodeo in a whole new light. Review: Great product - Product arrived on time and in perfect condition. Plays perfectly.

Beautiful Message, beautiful story line.
I read a review of someone complaining about Franklin Graham & Evangelicals being sanctimonious... Well, I didn't see anything like that in this movie. If anything it demonstrates that people who truly believe in the Lord Jesus are humble enough to acknowledge we're not perfect & we need help that only God can provide for us. I'm not a fan of Franklin Graham since he has become a mouth piece for political reasons, though I agree 100% with what he says in this movie, that doesn't make him sanctimonious. He was only offering hope & sharing his faith with some of the rodeo attendees. It seems like now in days many people find reasons to be upset just about everything. You don't have to believe what you don't want to... its called [free will], you choose your eternal dwelling, God will respect your decision. He loves us all but He hates our sin. This movie is about redemption, unconditional love. Watch the movie for what it is, just a simple, low budget movie with a beautiful message of hope.

As Touching & Realistic as Life
Many of the special parts of life nicely portrayed. A good production with good acting and a good storyline. Worries and challenges, dreams and hopes, work and perseverance are only a few of this story's accords residing as harmonious companions. A heartfelt yet realistic view of what's it like to matter and care. And a good wholesome family film. I liked it.

Inspiring Story
A fine film with some top level actors. Michael Biehn is one of my all time favorites. Jennifer O'Neal is also a fine actress. And many others did a fine job portraying their characters. It is a film that the whole family can watch and enjoy. Good Rodeo scenes and a moving story of courage and finding something that is greater than yourself!

Good family movie
We have this on VHS and really loved watching it. It's a really good family movie and several good themes running through it. This was the one movie that my nephew had to watch over and over again - well up into his teens. He seemed to relate to the characters and the themes. We purchased 2 of the movie on DVD: one for a gift and one to keep. After all, as many times as the VHS has been watched, it's bound to need replacing soon. I recommend the movie.

GREAT VIDEO! Not so great seller.
This is one of the nicest videos that explores two characters lives and the obstacles they face and how they overcame them. It is definitely a great family flick. Highly recommended. The only drawback to this purchase is that it was not Amazon fulfilled. The seller used DHL for shipping which is by far the slowest possible method of delivery. The motion picture DVD is 5 starts, the seller is 1 star for slow shipping and delivery.
