Question 1

Does the BLUE fluid evaporate over time? The top of one tube is open to the atmosphere after you take off the cap. "Disappointed" review says it does.

The directions state, "2. Remove end caps from both tube ends."  Not what Diane W. says to do.  It won't work with one end capped.  You need to show the difference between the vacuum in the piping and the atmosphere.  When I removed my caps they felt oily.  I assume it is some sort of colored oil.  Therefore, it won't evaporate much over time if left open.  If it is oil, I would not add water.  If it does evaporate some, just turn off the fan and follow step 3, "...slide the tube until the tops of both columns align with the zero mark on the pressure scale."  Then turn your fan back on.  Does anyone know what a proper reading range should be?  The directions picture a reading of 1.1, I have 1.7.

What do you use to test levels of Radon, please?

You can use the single-use mail in test kits, such as First Alert Radon Test Kit.  Alternately, if you want to pay more but be able to get a consistent watch of your radon levels, you can buy a much more expensive Radon Testing device like the Corentium Home by Airthings, Radon Detector.  Both work well, and take a few days to get a reliable reading.

Can this be used to measure pressure and flow rate of water? Many thanks

I doubt it since there is no gauge to measure air pressure or flow rate.  But I do know that it does a great job on indicating that there is a flow of air in a pipe.

Question 4

Fan and exposed pvc will be in attic.  Can manometer be twenty feet away in the basement via flex tubing?

Accepted Answer

It is probably not recommended, but it might work. I just connected 20 feet of 1/4" OD .170" ID tubing to the supplied tubing and got an identical reading, but that is without the tubing ran up 20 feet. You'll probably want to run a few scenarios to confirm operation, such as confirming readings between the attic and basement with the fan on and off.
