This well done book has just about everything you'd ever want to know about netsuke carving. From start to finish, the book carries you right alone in a logical way that never leaves you wanting for info. I've been carving on these things for years now and I come to find there are many ways to make the job more enjoyable, easier and fun. The accuracy is to be applauded! I could have missed this very well illustrated book.... I'm not sure how I got on to it...but I am SO glad I did!! Super good book in all aspects. If you have an interest in netsuke of any sort, even if you aren't a carver, you will be rewarded if you read this thing. I was most impressed.

Master Masatoshi tells very well the process he uses in his work, the book is well made, I like the covers and the paper,also, the pictures of the figures of carving are very good. ( But only one pattern of ivory carving ). However, EXCELENT material for any carver.

There are good many photographies, description of different techniques, styles. This book is very helpful for any carvers!

This book captures both the beauty of ivory and the art form of Netsuke carving. The artist Masatoshi is a superb carver and the photgraphs of his works and others in this collection epitomize the "best of the best" in the field of this unique Japanese art form. If you like oriental art, this book is a must for the true collector. The book itself is highly collectible, although the First Edition is impossible to find.
