RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital

"First Blood" (1982) is a action film with psychological undercurrents. It stars Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, one of the defining roles if his acting career. It's a popular movie, and inspired three sequels. This first film in the saga is based on a bestselling novel, by David Morrell, which - in the midst of an action storyline - explores some of the difficulties faced by soldiers returning home to the USA after fighting in Vietnam, and the post traumatic stress suffered. The book introduced Rambo - although it was this film series that turned the character into a global phenomenon. The film concerns John Rambo, who's living as a vagrant, being picked up by local police in a small town in rural America. The police don't particularly like Rambo's looks or attitude. In turn, Rambo doesn't seem to care about what the police think ... He's arrested, and while being detained is mistreated by some of the officers. During a moment of flashback - to an ordeal during the Vietnam War, when he was tortured - Rambo gets mad, fights the police officers and escapes. Hiding in the nearby mountains, Rambo is pursued by the police. It's then that the police learn that Rambo is an elite warrior - an ex-special forces soldier who's trained to evade capture, survive in the wilderness, and kill the enemy using any tactics. Ultimately, the police utterly fail to apprehend Rambo - and so now the military join-in the manhunt, led by Rambo's former commanding officer Colonel Sam Trautman. In the final act of the film, Rambo destroys the local town - and then, persuaded by Trautman, gives himself up. This is a violent film. Yet it's not violence for its own sake, merely to titillate. Rather, the storyline is handled in a serious manner - and Rambo's tortured psyche is explored (being clearly depicted in the final scene, when he suffers an emotional breakdown). This is as much a drama about a man being mistreated, and refusing to simply accept such mistreatment, as it is an action film. Stallone acts well, portraying the central protagonist in a meaningful way. He's brilliantly supported by both Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. This is a defining film of the 1980's - inspiring a host of copy-cat movies. The Blu-ray edition presents excellent quality video and audio. Unfortunately, it has few special features.

Amazing film

To bring the subject of post-traumatic stress syndrome to the big screen, especially during the action driven 80's takes balls and intelligence. This is one of the main reasons that this film just has not dated. It is as relevant today as it has ever been...maybe more so. The film itself is incredibly detailed and does not spoon-feed the audience the information with obvious extra dialogue that is so often used in ... well, in most films. It was Stallone who, when eventually on board, penned the character of John Rambo so brilliantly. He said that when he read the screenplay, Rambo was written as a savage who had lost all sense of humanity during the war. His problem with this was that the public would not care if this character lived or died. Stallone said he needed to give Rambo heart so that the public could empathise with the character. And it is impossible not to. Stallones' acting is fantastic and the story romps along with one outstanding scene after another. The blu-ray itself is decent. The transfer is sympathetic to the original. I can see no use of DNR and the blacks are reasonably solid. There is heavy grain in some scenes but the film is intentionally dark and grain is a result when using film. This film is an absolute must. I am very proud to have it in my blu-ray collection

In short: - The picture quality can't be better, although or especially because the movie is about 30 years old. Clearly defined colours and sharp resolution, even in dark scenes, let this movie become a new experience for all DVD-watchers. - Only the German sound (5.1 dts) - and that's what is in my personal interest - is a bit tinny or muffled. One can virtually hear the lots of digital filters that made 5.1 from only Dolby Surround in the original film. But, nonetheless, I would always prefer this timeless and uncut version again. Don't spend your money on the DVD-edition! Für deutsche Kunden: Kurz gesagt: - Die Bildqualität kann nicht besser sein, obwohl oder gerade weil der Film schon 30 Jahre alt ist. Klar definierte Farben und gestochen scharfe Auflösung, auch in dunklen Szenen, lassen den Film eine ganz neue Erfahrung für alle DVD-Fans werden. - Nur der deutsche Ton (5,1 dts) - und das ist, was mich persönlich interessiert - klingt ein bisschen blechern oder dumpf. Man kann praktisch die vielen digitalen Filter hören, die den 5.1-Ton aus nur Dolby Surround des Original-Films herausgeholt haben. Aber nichtsdestotrotz würde ich immer wieder diese zeitlose und ungeschnittene Fassung bevorzugen . Vergeuden Sie nicht Ihr Geld mit der DVD-Edition!

Great movie

If you like to hear author's and/or actors discuss the story and movie making process then this is an excellent buy. I got it specifically because Sylvester Stallone (actor) and David Morrell (author) discuss FirstBlood. If you have listened to any of Stallone's commentaries before, you will know he is a contrast to the type of characters he plays on screen. He comes across as extremely knowledgeable, intelligent and very interesting, full of the kind of insight fans of these commentaries love. Likewise David Morrell is always honest, tells a great story and is never less than heartfelt. He comes across as a very nice guy, who is very pleased to have created one of the great action icons of the twentieth century. If you have any interest in fiction writing Morrell's books on the writing process are also excellent value for money. As this is a blu-ray the image and audio are excellent but you can buy just that for less directly from the UK. The value of this is for the fans of the commentaries. Well worth the slightly elevated price.

Brilliant film Brilliant

Compré la edición 4K UHD de Lionsgate a 350 pesos, lo que se me hizo casi una ganga tomando en cuenta que esta edición es importada y el envío fue completamente gratis. Además de que para los que todavía no tienen una televisión 4K o un reproductor 4K también incluye el Blu-Ray normal en 1080p. Tanto el Blu-Ray 4K como el Blu-Ray normal incluyen una pista de audio en español con el doblaje mexicano original, también incluye una copia digital pero lamentablemente no está disponible para México. Sin duda ésta es la mejor edición de Rambo y a un muy buen precio.

*This is a review of the First Blood StudioCanal BluRay edition. There's not much to say about First Blood that hadn't already been said. This film is great and is one of my personal favorites!! PLOT: --------- John J. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is backpacking back home to Arizona after doing his war tour in Vietnam, when he decides to stop into Hope, Washington to meet up with an old war buddy. Unbeknownst to him, his friend has been killed from cancer, brought on by Agent Orange. Distraught, he preps to stop in town and get some dinner when he's noticed by Sheriff Will Teasel (Brian Dennehy) who offers him a ride, unbeknownst to Rambo that it's an escort and a warning not to come back into town, as Rambo looks like a drifter and Teasel doesn't want any trouble from 'his kind'. Rambo ignores this, heads back into town and is arrested by Teasel for vagrancy. After he's pushed around by the small town deputies and triggered by flashbacks of his days as a P.O.W (Prisoner of War) in Vietnam, Rambo snaps, takes out all of the deputies and Sheriff non-lethally in highly skilled hand-to-hand combat and escapes into the wilderness surrounding the town. He is then pursued by the lawmen into the wild, all of whom will find out that they're outmatched by Rambo who is a green beret Vietnam vet and is the best there is. Sheriff Teasel has picked the wrong man to mess with as Rambo will fight all opposition in this heavily escalating personal war on pride, honor and to see who the better man is. Rambo's mentor Col. Sam Trautman (Richard Crenna) arrives to help deescalate the situation when the national guard shows up to help apprehend Rambo, but it may already be too late!! REVIEW: ------------- This movie isn't at all like the cartoony pulp culture Rambo we're all familiar with; the gun-totting, bad guy killing, invincible good guy. This is the more grounded, realistic PTSD suffering Rambo, who's dealing with coming home and being disrespected by the country he's spilled blood for to defend. It's not just an action film, it's a dark, moody commentary on the Vietnam vets and their unjust treatment after returning home from the Vietnam war. Rambo is the face of all the suffering, torment, pain and sorrow of all our vets went through, and who better to represent that? When he's pushed around by Teasel and the deputies, he pushes back and starts a one man war to get his point across. It's only at the end of the film that we find out why he's fighting back so hard. It's truly brilliant filmmaking at it's finest. BluRay REVIEW: ------------------------ This BluRay version is awesome!! Picture Quality: 8/10 (While the quality's quite clear, we still have the widescreen bars on a 1080p widescreen) Audio Quality: 10/10 VERDICT: -------------- The best kind of films are those that teach us something and carry messages. Sure, this is an action film, but it has a smart commentary in its method, which stops it from being hollow and pretentious. Kudos to Stallone, Brian Dennehy, Richard Crenna and the rest of the cast for making one of the best action films ever made with such conviction. It's truly a one of a kind action masterpiece in every sense of the word. Highly recommended!! 10/10

Quand j’ai reçu mon tv, câbles et lecteur 4k pour Noël 2024, le premier film uhd4k a été Rambo. La qualité géniale, le scénario, Sylvester en pleine forme qui tue et mange un sanglier en trois secondes, plus vite qu’Obelix ! Je recommande pour ce bon moment de cinéma à voir plusieurs fois ….

4K restoration is just beautiful. I owned the DVD and the Blu-ray and if you are thinking about converting to 4K, I highly recommend it because there are discernible differences in the video quality (on LG OLED TV). Special Features from Blu-ray edition carry over; they are: Commentary from Sylvester Stallone, Commentary from David Morrell (the author of the book First Blood) First Blood is the perfect movie to epitomize the concept of “if you pick on the wrong guy, you get your ass kicked” and “the hunter becomes the hunted”. Sherriff Teasle is a small town sheriff who is a bully; he picks up Rambo for vagrancy just because he doesn’t like the way Rambo looks (unbeknownst to him, Rambo is a war hero, a Vietnam green beret with medal of honor). When Rambo finally gets enough of the harassment at the hands of the cops in the police station and breaks free, it turns into a personal war and vendetta for Sheriff Teasle who desperately tries to bring down Rambo but with no success. As Sheriff Teasle takes the fight up a notch in each step, Rambo manages to come back stronger and before you know it, Rambo takes on the entire police force, law enforcement and even the army in this tour de force action flick – a total classic! My only criticism is the subtitles. Some of the subtitles do not match the spoken words and in some instances they ruin the meaning of the scene. I am not sure if the subtitles in the DVD or the Blu-ray edition have the same problem or not. For instance, in the scene where Rambo says (while talking to Trautman in the tunnel), “They drew first blood, not me” which is an important line in the movie because it is first and the only time the title of the movie is spoken. The subtitle in that scene reads: “They shot first, not me”. One other example is when Rambo is riding in the car with Sheriff Teasle and asks if there is a law against him having something to eat in this town, Teasle responds: “Yeah, me”. In this scene, subtitles read: “Yeah, my law”. These are the examples I can think of now.
