If at first you don't succeed... try, try again!
A little background history... we rescued an adult cat who was being fostered. There was no medical history, all we knew as it had "allergies" and that it wasn't gaining any weight (skin and bones!). It was a pure bred Tonkinese female and I quickly suspected it was ill. I got it to my vet quickly to discover it not only had an upper respiratory infection, but hyperthyroidism and it was older than first suspected. Why the foster "parent" never had any blood work done on a senior cat with no medical history is beyond me, but at least I save a life. Anyway, after a bout of pancreatitis from the stress of moving her, and on top of that, into a home with 8 other cats, we were able to start giving her the thyroid pills. At first, she gobbled up the cream cheese "treats" and everyone was happy, then 2 days later, cream cheese gone, little pink pill is on the floor... next step, pry open mouth, pop down throat, hold mouth shut until she swallows. Wise cat, she won't swallow, spits pill out. Next step, pry open mouth. pop down throat, hold mouth shut, get plastic syringe with water and put water down her throat several times. Unfortunately, in the time it took too get the water, she had time to hide the pill and spit it out after a few bouts of water! Clearly, she's taken pills before! That's when I went hunting for these so called pill guns. This one looked the best, because it had the water and on occasion, the water trick did work, just not always. So, did it work? Yes, it works! Let's start with what not to do. 1. Do not put it the side of the cats mouth. While this works for liquid medications, it doesn't work for this. This seems to leak a lot of the water out, thus not giving the full amount and leaving room for wise cats to still be able to spit the pill out. Lesson learned. 2. Do not do this slowly, thinking it's "nicer" for the cat, this allows for them to be able to separate pill from water and spit the pill out. Again, lesson learned. Now, let's talk about the correct way to to do it. 1. Fill the entire barrel with water (as far as it will let you, which is not all the way). 2. Wedge the pill in the tip, it's perfect for thyroid pills! 3. Place about half of the white part (see picture) into the FRONT of the cats mouth (see above, not the side!) and QUICKLY (see above, not slowly) push down and administer the water/pill as quickly as possible. This may seem like you are going to gag your cat on water, but trust me, you don't. They swallow very quickly and they don't have time to react to the surge of water and the pill mixed in with it, thus they can't sort pill from water and they have to swallow it. Note: They will be peeved. Probably for hours. They may bite, hiss, scratch, and hold a grudge for who knows how long. They may put a 21 pound cat in their place w/in minutes of having received said pill - yes, this has happened and it was quite comical. They may in fact hiss at every cat (And human) they come in contact with an refuse treats just to spite themselves. However, beware, as every other cat in your house will expect a treat just for putting up with the madness of the now peeved cat. You were warned. I highly recommend this product if you have a pill spitting cat! However, I will say that I don't know if a large pill would fit in the tip.

Don’t waste your money
Don’t waste your money. Very bad design. Doesn’t work. The tiny pill sits in the flexible silicon slit which sort of holds it in place and squeezes the pill, and the plunger is too flexible so it pushes right next to the pill and the pill doesn’t move. What a waste.

Nice and effective way to administer meds to your pet
My cat has to take prednisone every other day and at times it’s very difficult to get her to open her mouth long enough to pop the pill in. This makes it so much easier. I wish I had found this years ago. It would’ve saved a lot of time and heartache trying to get my poor cat to swallow a pill.

Too stiff
I needed a shorter one than the vet gave me, but the rubber/plastic tip is too stiff & the hole is a little too big. My cat’s tiny pills just fall out of it. It’s fine for any larger pills that it can grip, just not good for very small pills.

Good pill popper for cats, but has one big flaw
This is a great pill popper for cats. It’s suitable for smaller pills, but most regular sized capsules do not fit, making it best for small dogs and cats. I’ve had this one for 5 months now, and it works great. However, it has a big issue with drawing up air. I always try to draw water up when giving my cat her pills, so she can have something to wash them down. The problem is that there’s no seal on the syringe, so air is always drawn up. I don’t like having air in it, because it makes my cat burp and bloated. I have found a really good work around to this, for anyone struggling with the same thing: Whenever this becomes an issue, take the plunger out, and spray the inside of the syringe with a tiny amount of cooking spray. Then, push the plunger through it a few times to coat it. After that, take the plunger out and rinse both pieces out. This leaves the tiniest amount of oil, so the pieces glide together smoothly, and no air is brought up through the syringe.

Great tool! Makes it much less traumatic for my cat.
This actually works. I have one cat with hypothyroidism and he is fast and I couldn't catch him to give him his meds. But after using this a couple of times he thinks this is not as bad as me shoving my fingers down his throat. This is much less traumatizing for him and I don't get my finger bit anymore. He won't touch cat treats so I can't hide his in a treat like I do for his brother. I'm so glad I got this. Our relationship was going downhill because he was so traumatized by having a pill shoved down his throat. He wouldn't come sit on the back of my recline anymore and he wouldn't come sot in my lap anymore because he was so mad at me. Now he's letting me walk up to him again. We are slowly getting back to normal.

Does not work like I thought it would
I was very excited to get this Pill Popper because no one in my area carries them. Unbelievable, I know. So happy to finally try and administer medications that I've been waiting to give my cats. But the Pill Popper is not very good quality you pull on the plunger and it's kind of goes sideways it will not fill all the way with liquid. And to use it by filling it partially with liquid and the pill inside the end of the proper, which they say could help get the medication down your cat's throat. The liquid flies everywhere and the pill stays in the end of the popper the pill will not release or sorry the popper will not release the pill just ridiculous. So I don't know if they're all like that but I know that this one doesn't work.

It didn’t work reliably.
This didn’t work very well. The thing inside kept missing the pill and wouldn’t push it out. I had to keep putting the pill into the correct position. I bought several at the same time and another one worked better.

This is a literal life saver
My very old, arthritic cat got diagnosed with a new issue (hyperthyroidism) and needed to start a new medication, but it's twice a day and she's always been terrible with handling pills. In this case, we had the option to order a medicated ointment if the pills didn't work but it's prohibitively expensive, so if I couldn't get her to take the pills.... well, I was prepared for that decision but I'm glad I didn't have to do it. A friend suggested this and it does the job perfectly! I can manage holding my cat and getting her mouth open with one arm (and both legs, I don't have a helper for this! lol) and I can get the pill popper in her mouth and shoot it in with a little squirt of water with the other hand, no problem. It only took a week for her to realize that it isn't so bad, so now we've got a routine and very little struggle at all. She's still an old girl with health problems so her clock is ticking, but this little thing enabled me to noticeably, easily, improve and extend her life for which I'm grateful.

Really handy!
Really useful for shooting pills down your cranky cat's gullet deep enough they can't spit them back up!

nul
l'article ne tient pas ensemble, le piston se tord dès que vous le bouger et l'embout est très gros pour la petite bouche de chat, très déçu
