Hi Kirsten t , mmm this question should be directed to your boiler manufacturer. Boiler flues should not be obstructed in any way. If you want to provide a flue low pressure equalizing valve, using a corrosion proof material, such as stainless steel, it would have to be mounted in an adapter ‘box’ to provide for full deflection of the louvre plates, when the pressure in the flue is below atmospheric pressure. Mounting it inside the flue, would expose the mechanism to soot and or creosote ( depending on the fuel you are using ) In the exhaust gas flow is not good practice. I would strongly advise asking your boiler manufacturer this question. ‘Google’ their ‘official’ web site, ask for technical support . In my experience, I have found the ‘expert engineers ‘ will give you a definitive answer. It is very important not to interfere with the aspiration of the boiler , which has been carefully calculated, to provide efficient combustion and compliance with emission regulations .
