Max of 80X magnification doesn't seem very high compared to some others at 1000X. Any explanation, thoughts, advantages of this low magnification?

You are confusing a compound microscope ( 1000x) with this stereo microscope.

What is the highest power camera I can use with this? 1mp, 3mp? Could you provide a link to a compatible camera?

You can use any camera you want to, power of camera is independent of scope lenses. You should be able to find the digital camera they recommend model number MU300, Amscope digital camera. That model number is 3mp, I think. I had trouble using the digital camera with my scope, however, and ended up purchasing a scope that has the digital camera attachment as a separate tube, apart from the eyepiece. I got the scope on ebay for a little under 500 and it is AMAZING, with a zoom feature, and magnification up to 90x, which gives absolutely stunning views. However, I love these little scopes and have purchased 8 of them for my classroom. These little scopes are worth every penny I spent. I love them.

How do you change the two objective lenses? Are they on a rotating dial or do you have to stop work and screw one out and screw the other one in?

Can rotate to change between 2x and 4x, but have to unscrew and change the eyepieces for 10x or 20x changes.

How much vertical (up & down) travel does this have?

The main rod on the back has a travel of approximately 2” and the focus knob a travel of 1-3/4”
