If the buckle failed, then the d-rings held the harness together. The two side buckles hold strong and are sturdy, but are easy to click and undo to remove the harness. The fit is great and I appreciate the back handle and multiple d-ring locations for the leash. When we were on vacation, it was HOT, but the harness did not chafe her and did not bother her while sleeping. Also, it washed like a dream after being covered in mud. Lots of colors to choose from.
