Despite a few bad reviews, this scale is PERFECT.
I bought this so I could expand sales on eBay, and so I didnt have to make a special trip to the post office with an item i was unsure about the weight on. I have used it a few times since it arrived, and so far, I am very happy with this scale. It is very easy to use, and it come per-calibrated, so it was just plug it in and you are good to go. I had an item that i brought to work once and weighed ( a small urban vinyl toy) and its weight was 5.7 ounces. Knowing this when I got this scale I found another one of the items (same series and size, just different character, so weights should be the same or similar) and my scale measured the similar item as 5.8 ounces. So I will say it is fairly accurate on its weights, since all figures from that series of items should be about the same weight. I have weighed several other items, and have found it to read the same on multiple weighs, meanings it doesn't fluctuate when reweighing the same item, if it tells you its 5.2, it will tell you 5.2 every time. So it is consistent as well, I know some cheaper scales can be inconsistent with the same item. I have only had a few chances so far to play around with the scale and use it, but from what I can tell, it works perfectly. It also has a flip up tray on top so you can easily weight items such as letters and flat shipping envelopes. If you are in the market for a good quality scale, at a wonderful price, this is definitely the scale for you. You will see some reviews of buys saying it did not come calibrated, and it required an item of exactly 22.5 lbs to calibrate, and things of that nature, that has not been my experience, but if you happen to come across a situation like that, then by all means, take a breather and contact Amazon and let them know that you got a machine that was not properly calibrated at its factory and you would like it to be exchanged, I am sure that fine CS people at Amazon will be able to help you with that. So once again, if you need a great scale on the cheap, this is the scale for you!

Accurate, useful tool
If you deal with shipping items on a regular basis, you're all too familiar with the disgusting lines at the post office. But hang on, there are mail drop-off boxes everywhere, and even if you live closer to a postal center, you can save time by arriving with prepaid labels, toss your packages into the large mail slots and jump back out, while the long line of grouchy, unprepared people stare at that one ebayer with his box full of little packages he needs to buy postage for. As many shippers offer online purchase discounts, it becomes necessary to be able to provide the weight for an accurate cost. I picked up this unit for what seems to have been a bargain price. This unit can hold a LOT of weight, compared to many smaller scales I have seen. The size is decent- it's not too large, but it doesn't look fragile either. While it looks simple, there's nothing particularly bad about having an easy interface to interact with. Mostly I just turn it on, weigh something, and turn it back off. No problems with that. For odd-shaped items or larger things, the platform folds upwards, making an easel in which to prop the item up so you can get a reading. You can also press a hole button, which grabs onto the weight and freezes it on the screen. There's a slot for a 9v battery (not included), but if you have a wall plate available, the manufacturers included a power cable. For other models of this particular brand/style of scale, people complained about the display. I have no qualms- the display is backlit, which is great for the evenings or darker days. Of course, the viewing angle is terrible, as is the fashion with those old digital screens, but I'm always directly facing the panel so there's no problem there. For the price and the time it saves me from going to the post office, this scale is definitely one of my 'justified' purchases that I'm glad I invested in.

Awesome Postal Scale
I have been searching for an official Postal Scale for quite some time. I've been using my kitchen scale, which has a weight limit of 11 pounds, but sometimes its features just fell short. Aside from not being able to accommodate heavier items, it could also not handle large items/packages. So I settled on this scale from American Weigh. Even though I bought it from a third party seller, it came supremely packaged---secured by form-fitting styrofoam and wrapped in plastic, along with a booklet of instructions. Needless to say, it had NOT been previously opened or messed with. The only thing I had to do to get it up and running was place the top plastic tray onto the base and install the batteries (which were included). I like the fact that the scale uses batteries (AA, which are quite convenient), or, if you're going to be using it for long periods at a time, you can choose to use the included wall adapter. The first thing that made me smile after pressing the power button (it powers up and is ready for use in less than five seconds) was the backlit screen. It is quite bright, with a dark black readout, which just makes using the scale that much easier. You can cycle through 4 different MODEs, which should be quite sufficient for almost everyone needing a postal scale. While it can measure out in .1 ounces (one-tenth of an ounce), the most accurate it measures in grams is by .2 (one-fifth of a gram)---I suppose you'll need a Kitchen Scale if you want to get more precise regarding grams. Of course this scale has a TARE feature. I've yet to notice any legitimate scales that lack that feature. One feature that I really like, and have found useful, is the HOLD feature. If you have a particularly large item/package sitting on the scale, and your view of the screen is obstructed, you just press the HOLD button on the side of the scale, remove your item/package, and the measured value remains on the screen for a handful of seconds (long enough for you to get a chance to read it). I am very pleased with my purchase of this scale. I would definitely recommend it anyone who is looking for a good-quality, accurate postal scale with many useful features. And the absolute best part is I didn't have to shell out any more than seventeen bucks!

The scale is very easy to use
I was skeptical about this device given that it was only $20. I received it in about one week. Out of the box I was very surprised by the obvious quality of this scale. It is very well designed and engineered. I bought it to weigh various items I use for backpacking. Being older, I can't carry the weight in a pack that I used to so I am looking for backpacking products that are as light as I can get. Some product distributors state a weight for their products which allowed me to test the accuracy (or inaccuracy) of their claims. The scale apparently is accurate right out of the box as the claimed weights of all the stuff I bought were right on. Note that the camping gear were purchased from known, highly-regarded manufacturers and distributors. The scale is very easy to use, and has a broad range of applications since it can weigh items that are less than an ounce all the way up to 55 pounds. The scale will weigh stuff in the traditional English and metric systems. If you need to weigh liquids, no problem, the scale will weigh the empty weight of the container, and "memorize" that weight as the tare weight so that you can get accurate weights for the net value of the liquid. being weighed, which I very important to folks who cast things using very types of mold-making and casting materials. The scale is fairly light for its size and is easily stored in a small space. It runs on either batteries or the included power adapter.I use it very often. This scale is a great value. I highly recommend it.

Great Postal Scale that weighs in pounds and ounces to ...
Great Postal Scale that weighs in pounds and ounces to tenths of an ounce (0Lb 0.0oz), also weighs in pounds to hundredths (0.00lbs), kilos to the thousandths (0.000Kg), and kilos and whole grams (0Kg 0g). I use the pounds and ounces setting to print accurate shipping labels for packages that weigh on average from 3.0 oz. to 13.0 oz. and above. The lightest items start registering at about 0.3 oz. and 55 lbs. is stated capacity, although I have never weighed anything that heavy on it. It has a tare feature to zero out the scale. The scale and LCD do not turn off automatically and the On/Off switch must be used to power it up or down. The 6V ~ 1A, AC power adapter has a cord length of 46 inches. Highly recommend that a surge protector be used with this device. This is my second one as the LCD screen on the first one shorted out while cycling home circuit breakers during an electrical project. I am pretty sure a power surge during a power outage could have the same result. The first one was plugged directly to the wall outlet. I am being more careful with the second one and plugging it directly to a surge protector. Four stars for no built in surge protection. Learned the hard way, use a surge protector with this device. No other issues. A great postal scale for an incredible price.

PS-25 Digital Postal Scale - Excellent - EZ Sell
This review is for the American Weigh Scales (AWS) PS-25 digital postal scale. I purchased it from EZ Sell via Amazon. It was shipped by EZ Sell and it arrived in only 3 days from the order date with standard (free) shipping. The PS-25 has a maximum capacity of 55 lbs and a sensitivity of 0.1 oz (minimum capacity is 0.2 oz). The scale comes pre-calibrated and I tested it with a calibration weight that I already had and it seemed to be in perfect calibration. Note: If you want to manually calibrate the PS-25, yourself, you will need a 10 kg calibration weight. Such a large calibration weight is usually expensive. The cheapest one I could find is by the same manufacturer (AWS) and cost US$99.99 with free shipping which is almost 5 times the price of the scale, itself. The PS-25 arrived with the platform uninstalled. Installation was easy---just align the six mounting studs to the mounting holes on the metal sub-plate and carefully push the platform onto the sub-plate until the studs are fully pressed into their mounting holes. The included user manual did not describe this but it was very easy to figure out. If you have any questions, just refer to the photo of the assembled scale in the manual. The PS-25 can be powered by either two AA batteries or an AC adapter. Both were included. The batteries were pre-installed and all I had to do was remove a clear plastic insullation tab from one end of the battery compartment to activate the battery power. The PS-25 worked very well. It is fast and sensitive. The LCD readout is bright and easy to read. The features work very well: It is easy to change units (kg/g, decimal kg, lbs/oz, decimal lbs) with the "Mode" button or zero a tray with the "Tare" button. The "on/off" button made it easy to immediately turn the scale off without waiting for it to time out. A "hold" button on the side made it easy to freeze the value on the readout so you can weigh an oversize package, "hold" the value, remove the package and its weight is still visible for easy reading afterward. The top of the scale platform is hinged at the back and opens to form a backstop so you can vertically lean an oversize envelope (like a Priority Mailer) onto the scale for easy weighing. Having a wide-range scale that goes from 55 lbs to 0.2 oz with an accuracy of 0.1 oz, runs from either battery power or a provided AC adapter, and can be calibrated by the user is awesome for this price (US$20.99). You can use it to weigh most anything from postal letters, medium parcels and packages, to food portions in the kitchen. It includes a 20-year warranty from the manufacturer, AWS. This PS-25 is the second AWS scale that I've purchased (I also have a small AWS-100) and the PS-25 seems to offer excellent value. I'm very satisfied with it and highly recommend it.

My Life Just Got a Whole Lot Easier! Works Great. Paid for Itself in 2 Weeks
If you've been thinking lately that maybe you should get a Postal Scale, but have been "on the fence" about it OR you just need a new scale that is accurate, easy to use, dependable and a nice size (8" wide x 8" long x 2 1/8" H), please keep reading. I have recently started selling things on e-Bay and while I am happy every time I make a sale, it's gotten to be a real tiresome and time consuming task to package and mail things. First I have to pack my box, then take it to the US Post Office to have them weigh it, come home and print the label from e-Bay/PayPal with the correct weight on it, and then take it back to the Post Office again. That's two trips to the post office for every day I sell/mail something. I've longingly eyed the postal scales at the Post Office(as I stand in the long waiting line) for $39.99, but felt they were too expensive. Maybe the Post Office scale is perfectly accurate down to 1 oz(this one is 2 oz at low weights--displays 1 decimal point for ounces and rounds up), but I don't need that level of exactness. I always need to add an ounce or two on anyway for tape, a little extra packing peanuts or bubble wrap and maybe even a freebie that I may add at the last minute. This scale is perfect for everyday use. It's pretty small which I like and doesn't weigh a lot, yet it feels and looks well made and durable enough. Didn't need to calibrate mine. It was exact right out of the box.(Checked 5 items against the scale at the Post Office when they weren't busy). I mailed about 20 small to medium boxes in the first 3 weeks and they were all spot on. I've used it to mail over-sized letters, packages 15 lbs and under and also when I needed 10 oz. of broccoli for a new recipe we were trying out. So far this is a great home scale at a reasonable price. It's not complicated, very easy & intuitive to use. And it's saved me an extra trip to the Post Office every day which is 30-45 minutes to spend doing something else, plus gas savings. With 2 kids away at college I'm always packing up something to send them. This has made it that much simpler and the kids are actually getting more "goodies" from home because I have extra time now. I bought mine through EZ SELL for $17.59 and just wish I would have bought one sooner and made my life a little easier. What you need to know: It has an On/Off button. The LCD readout is bright and the numbers are large and easy to read. It has a "Hold" button so you can still see the weight of the package after you've removed it from the scale. (especially useful if package is large and covers over the weight display) It has a "Tare" button so you can weight an empty container and then have the scale display only the additional weight of the contents.(if you need this) The "Mode" button allows you to switch between pound:ounce, decimal pound, kilogram:gram, decimal kilogram. All the buttons are clearly labeled. Has an auto time off of 2 minutes in case you forget to turn it off. Flip back top allows you to weigh items that need to lean on something. It runs on either 2 AA batteries included(if you want to move it around easily) or an INCLUDED AC adapter. Handles weights between 0.2 oz and 55 lbs. 10 year limited manufacturer warranty

AWS Postal Scale - Accurate and perfect for small to medium postal needs
As an owner of a number of scales for different uses, I am picky about the scales that make it into my collection. I own a triple beam, an 0.01g, 0.1g accuracy scale and a couple of oither precision scales for different applications. What I liked most about this scale: - Accurate. I own a number of calibration weights, and tested this scale on different occasions with them. What surprised me the most was that this scale was accurate with as little as 100g and 200g on it. I expected lighter weight objects to have a larger margin of error but this was not the case. - Large 8x8 platform that is elevated a few inches. This speaks for itself - Able to calibrate this scale. AWS scales have a calibration procedure, many scales do not. - Advertised, documented 10 year warranty - Made by a company that you can call on the phone, someone answers, and they help you with real support! AWS is a great company to work with - I own three other scales made by them - and whenever I have a question they are there. I feel confident in their warranty as opposed to some of the other scale "companies" that exist only by name. The only thing I don't like is the amount of plastic in the build - but for under $20 that is expected. The buttons are mounted a little crooked, and the fit and finish is plastic, but other than that for the price paid it is a great instrument with great warranty made by a company that backs it up and has been around for a long time. Would recommend to anyone looking for a low priced option to weighing packages.

Great Product But.............
This is a great little scales that works on 2 x batteries which are provided or a mains adapter. The mains adapter supplied with the unit I received was not for the UK but for the US - ie in contravention of UK safety regulations. In fairness I was offered a refund but this should not be necessary - if in doubt ask what sort of adapter you will receive.

Defective
I'm sure in general the brand is great. The one I received was defective. It works but it if you leave batteries in it, it drains the batteries. The power plug does not work with it. When I plug it in it does not give it any power. I'm stuck having to use batteries and if I leave the batteries in they get drained overnight.
