Great for smaller jobs, still powerful, good for people with weak arms
I have tried so many different tools for trimming and edging, usually separately. The last serious tool we tried was a "professional grade" gas-powered ordeal that was heavy and changing string seemed to require a special degree. Needless to say, our edges built up during this time. I had also tried a manual edger (I think one of the Garden Weasel ones) and it seems very sturdy but was going to take forever and require a significant amount of legwork, literally since you push it down with a step. I was just about ready to check with one of the lawn services that frequent the neighborhood but knew it would likely be a significant cost since all I really wanted was a couple sidewalks and driveway edges cleaned up. This lightweight but sturdy machine seems to hit the sweet spot of functionality and ease of use we needed. In our house, husband does the mowing and I'll try to go around with snips to get errant vines or usually I'm hand-pulling weeds. I really wanted something so I could actually contribute to lawn clean-up. But I also suffer from muscle weakness and nerve damage in my left hand and wrist, up to the elbow, so typically larger more powerful machines just leave me jiggled, shaken, and my arm useless for a couple days following. Not so with this tool! The plastic guide wheel for edging mode is wonderful. I was able to plop that down on the sidewalk and use the existing marks in the concrete to slowly rock back and forth to get a year's worth of overgrown edges manageable. I also also able to get all the grasses growing up out of the driveway cracks. Switching back to trimming mode is super easy and could probably be done with one hand in a pinch. It also never felt like anything was going to come undone or go wildly flailing between modes. I did go ahead and buy 3 extra spools of the prewound string which ended up being a good idea. Because I was concentrating on very thick grasses on edges, I went through 2.5 spools in about 3 hours. Usually I try to DIY everything so felt slightly guilty about not using bulk string or something and may look at that for future projects. But now I know about how much effort, time, and string would be involved if we didn't maintain the edges for a whole year. Right after, my arms were a bit wobbly but nothing extreme. I'm also very tall (over 6 feet) and never felt any strain on my lower back or neck. Today my left arm is fully functional, just a bit sore, but nothing like what I had experienced with other tools in the past.

The best yard trimmer
This is the best trimmer i've ever bought. It works for me for 9 years untill someone use it with 220 volt electricity while it is designed for 110 volt. So it burned out. But it is very very good. My yard is very big and sometimes the grass even reach my knees but you must know how to use it. When the grass is high you should start trimming it from the top to the bottom moving from right to left visa versa like you are making half a circle. Don't try to trim high grass from the bottom. It will take more time and energie. And in those 9 years i have changed the Orange Spool cover only twice while my yard is full of stones. I live on a dry Island in the caribbean but the best thing is to take good care of your machine. Believe me it is a good one

EASY TRIMMER WOMEN:-)
UPDATE: 8/28/18 Welp, I've had this trimmer for 2 years and it has broken up, into a thousand pieces. This trimmer is not designed for heavy duty trimming and lazy people, who don't keep up with their yard, especially, a huge yard. The motor still works, but, piece by piece, the trimming, part, broke off and flew off at top speeds. It was fun, while it lasted, but, I must throw this thing away. I can not repair it and wont be buying another one. Luckily, I have 2 more trimmers, by Decker, that work by battery and once I kill them, I'll probably start having a professional, to cut my grass. I'm getting too old and tired of this yard upkeep, crap, anyway. I've been cutting this grass for 21 years and I'm done! I am, absolutely, in love with this trimmer, because, I am a lady and it's so easy to use. It's light weight, powerful, accurate, fast to cut down high grass and not, intimidating. If you are a lady and want a professional look to your grass, without needing a man to trim your yard, this is the trimmer for you. Also, I buy the Black and Deck Grass Hog Replacement Spool (automatic feed line), that comes 3 in the pack. This means, that, all you have to do is take off the old spool and replace it with a new spool. That's right! No, having to feed the spool with that annoying trim wire line, stuff, that makes your trimmer stop and you have to untangle the wire from around the spool. Yes, it's more expensive, but, you can finish your job with confidence and in a timely fashion. The key on how to save money on the Replacement Spools, is to not let your grass, that you have to trim, get too tall. I highly recommend this product. Thanks, Black and Decker. You've made my life so much easier:)

I moved in May and haven’t had a weed whacker or edging tool since then. Over time, the grass was slowly overtaking the sidewalk and flower beds. I bought this – the most inexpensive weed whacker I could find and hoped for the best. Last week I finally got around to setting trying it out on fairly heavily overgrown walkways. SET UP The weed whacker is well packed in a small box for shipping. Assembly requires attaching the lower guard (with a single screw), and attaching the handle (no tool required for the handle). The unit has a rotating collar which can be backed off to allow the telescoping stick to be extended/retracted. I’m 6’1” and find the most extended position just a little shorter than ideal. There is a power cord retention loop that works well to prevent you from accidentally pulling the power cord out of the back of the trimmer. TRIMMER When used as a trimmer, this performs exactly the same as any other electric weed whacker I’ve used. Noise, feedback, and comfort are essentially the same. EDGER This (and many of the more expensive B&D models) can also be used as an edger when flipped onto its back. There is a wheel on the back of the trimmer head which allows you to maintain the proper distance from the ground while edging. The handle is easily adjustable without tools and should be adjusted when switching from “weed whacker” to “edger” mode. The edger works extremely well for grass, but is a little less effective when dense, thick weeds have taken hold. AUTO-FEED SPOOL The auto-feed trimming wire feature works very well, and is completely seamless to the operation. This can be a very bad thing though, because you don’t notice that you are losing/breaking the line. The first time I used the unit, I burned through an entire spool (30 feet!) without noticing I was breaking the line. B&D’s proprietary auto-feed line (AF-100) costs about $5 per spool for 30’ line if bought in 3-packs (. OVERALL This is a great low-cost trimmer that brings edger capability to the table. Although I wish I’d bought the 20V wireless version of this trimmer, I am very happy with what I bought, especially for the price!

The product is designed to work in 110 volt.Hence it is not suitable for indian conditions.Working voltage is not specified in its description at Amazon. So much inconvenience caused and lost Rs.780/- as courier charge while returning the item.So please don't sell such items which were designed for US standards. It was a horrible experience in Amazon.

As an electric trimmer, it's a perfect product. It's powerful and very easy to use. It gets the job done. My only and very concern is about the corded electric trimmer category (not specific to this product): the cord sucks. When I use this trimmer around a tree, the string sometimes gets on the electric cord and it's quite dangerous. When I am trimming at the corner of the lawn, I also have to constantly re-arrange the cord. It is because of this reason, I'm looking for a cordless trimmer now. But of course, never gonna go back to gas trimmer.

This trimmer is not bad although it goes through a lot of trimmer line. Everytime it touches a hard surface it out feeds line out pre maturely. I went through one spool of line within less than 15 minutes of use. There also is no metal guide on the trimmer head to allow you to know how close you are to objects or how close you are to the ground.
