Scotts WeedEx Prevent with Halts pre-emergent application timing is very important for effective control and varies depending on what weed you want to control. Apply in the spring before temperatures are consistently in the 80's to prevent crabgrass, foxtail, spurge, barnyardgrass, fall panicum, goosegrass, and oxalis (common yellow woodsorrel). For northern grass types (bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue), we recommend applying this product between the 1st and 3rd or 4th mowing of the year to control the above listed spring germinating weeds. For warm season grass types, it should be applied in the late winter when the lawn is still dormant to control the above listed spring germinating weeds. This product is for use on all turf grass types except Bentgrass. **Q: It says early spring application. Will this still work after the weeds have grown or only before they take root?** A: Scotts WeedEx Prevent with Halts is a pre-emergent. If applied when the targeted weeds have already germinated, it will not help control them, or prevent them from coming back. **Q: will this kill the goathead stickers in my yard ?** A: We have been using Scotts traditional Halts quarterly here in North Texas for several years to combat goat heads. It takes time, but it does make a difference. I'm not sure about this new product, however, it has the same active ingredient as Halts did. Good luck!
