Instead of soil, different types of peat mixtures, suitable for your plants can be used. 3. Place the plant directly into the flowerpot and fill the remaining space with soil. Slightly compress. Add a little bit more soil, because it will settle within 2-3 weeks by 5-10%. 4. Water your plant directly into the soil. Make sure that the water level does not exceed the level of gravel. An attractive pot for wick watering
I bought these for African Violets. They are a bit taller than I usually use, but I fill the bottom 1.5" with Pearlite and then with my potting mix on top. That allows me to keep the water level a little higher than if the pot was filled completely with mix.These pots are similar in principle to the Oyama pots but are more readily available and at a better price. So far I have used four of the eight that I bought and the plants are doing well (perhaps better than when I they were in a traditional four inch AV pot.Watering is easy, simply lift out the inner pot and pour water into the outer pot. I wish there was some witness line on the inside of the outer pot for water level, but I fill higher because of my Perlite layer anyway.It was important to me to find a way of wick watering that isn't utilitarian looking. These posts are exactly what I needed.

These were the right size for what I need it for.
They, (4 pk), are very sturdy, bright colors, and just the size I needed them for. I will be ordering some larger & smaller sizes in the future. These pots are great.

These are great containers/pots. No worries about spilling over the pots or draining out the bottom. I wouldn't recommend leaving too much water in the outside container or you could get root rot. Depends on the plant you have in the pots.

Love these planters! They work great for Christmas Cactus and African Violets. They are light and easy to move around and especially good for starting new plants from cuttings.
