The one single book you cannot do without in preparing for case interviewing
There are a lot of points made by other reviewers, praising the qualities of this book and its author - and I agree with what's been said so far, no need top repeat it.All I want to add is that, comparing Case Interview Secrets to other books about case interview preparation, I found it to provide the most structured, clearly enunciated and solid approach to case interviewing. Sure, it does not include case material; the author is aware you can find those in many other books available. Instead, he insists on the crucial details that help you build the right mindset and habits, and most of all, those that help you build a consistent, logical and focused method for solving cases. Why? Because Victor Cheng is talking to you from the perspective of an actual, experienced consultant, and a seasoned interviewer, and helps you understand what consulting firms are looking for in you. That's a tremendously valuable perspective. This book alone won't be enough for your case interview preparation, but it's the one single book, in my view, you cannot do without.

I really like how Victor explains the mentality of a standard consultant
A strong, simple first reference to start prepping for case interviews. I really like how Victor explains the mentality of a standard consultant, which sets the theme for the whole book. Victor only has a few structures to memorize which are still powerful and, once mastered, can get you through most of your case prep. Nothing substitutes for actual practice cases but this is a great guide to pick up to help you understand a case interview if you've never heard of one before.

Perspective - The key deliverable of this book
Buy this book if you need to build the right mindset for case study interviews. One may or may not crack consulting interviews solely based on this book, but the thought process training that the Author provides will help structuring every other business problem you encounter everyday.

Cross Linking Concepts
Something to consider if you are approaching case interviews as a budding consultant... rarely will an organization hire you to solve a problem that you can resolve in an hour. Victor Cheng demystifies the interview process, but if you want to feel confident read between the lines in this book. Hidden within the discussion is a problem-solving mindset that is methodical, iterative, and based on the deep understanding of why businesses work in a marketplace. These processes are akin to the project management based methodologies. I would have liked to see more discussion about how consultants engage with stakeholders - instead of merely saying "it is good to walk your interviewer through your thought process because they want to know how you are thinking about the problem..."

Just love the fact that the autor does a great job ...
I keep coming back to this book not only for case interviews but even for regular interviews. Just love the fact that the autor does a great job describing how to approach solving problems. The methodology can be applied to many different situations in real life and different job environments, even if the job has nothing to do with consulting.

A very educational book, yet extremely fun to read, and not just for people aspiring to be management consultants.
Victor explains the skills required for tackling interviews with management consultancies. He does it in a crystal clear manner, and the book is quite enjoyable to read. It opens my eyes to this industry and the analytical skills that it values.I am not a consultant, but I can see how these skills can be extremely handy in my own profession. Topics covered includes:1. The two core skills required: math and case analysis.2. The two main types of case interviews: interviewer led and interviewee led.3. The most commonly used frameworks for analyzing a case.4. How to present an analysis in a professional manner.5. How to prepare for a management consultant interview.

Outstanding book that got me a job; Cheng could stand to tone the boasting down a bit, though
I loved the case prep strategy Cheng lays out, and I felt it was very helpful in both style and substance. The fact that this book gets you free access to most of his website is decent, too, although at times it feels a bit like an advertising gambit. With that said, as the subtitle alludes to ("a former McKinsey . . . "), Cheng refers to his own resume a bit too often. If you can't stand self-promotion you may find that he grates on your nerves. However, I would still recommend trying to ignore the boasting and taking his advice to heart.

Some times the approach is a bit dumbed down and slow
I guess I should not be reviewing this before I know whether this helped me land a job. However, I can already now say that this book states quite clearly the main dos and dont's of case interviewing, along with the rationale behind all of it. Some times the approach is a bit dumbed down and slow, especially when it comes to the maths/analytics bit of the book.

Simple yet very useful
After reading Case in Point I found this book a lot more useful. I read this book in a couple of days and I guess you could even read it in one go. As Victor says being efficient is very important. This book is very simple but to the point, providing useful tips and clear directions on how to tackle case interviews. You can find most of the information found in this book for free on Victor's website but this book is not expensive and having everything organised in one place is nice. Victor claims that this book is complimentary to Case in Point but I really think that you don't need CiP. The main reason to this is that CiP offers a different framework for each type of case whereas Victor offers only two of them. Having a lot of frameworks makes you a "case robot" as Victor says it and I could not agree more. Having said that, unlike CiP this book contains only a couple cases and LOMS is needed to offer you comprehensive preparation material. Nonetheless, although CiP contains many cases, I found these very limiting in their approach. LOMS on the other hand, although expensive, covers each case 2 to 3 times with different people learning from others' mistakes and also hearing how a great approach should look like.To sum up, comparing this to CiP it is lacks the volume of case examples but offers a clear approach to tackling most types of cases like a boss instead of making you look like a case robot. Having said that unlike CiP this book is designed to be the "manual" and companion book for the Victor's LOMS program.

It is suffice to get a general idea about interviews within MBB
It is an easy reading without an excess of frills. I recommend this book to those people approaching the consulting management’s world and lacking of a strong background. As a matter of fact, this book successfully introduces the main aspects of a MBB’s interview and define the foundations over which an applicant has to construct solid walls, by using alternative and complementary material. Indeed, Cheng, in my opinion, has not delivered a didactic material extremely functional for the preparation of a technical interview. In conclusion, use this book to understand the MBB’ s interview construction and flow.

Viktor's LOMS program is great too as it provides a practical insight to the ...
The book is very informative, providing a clear picture for what case interview really is. Viktor Cheng, given his experience in consulting and case interviews, makes it much easier for an outsider to understand what case interview is all about, what the consulting firm is looking for in a candidate, as well as what particular actions and techniques candidate should use in order to be successful in a case interview.Viktor's LOMS program is great too as it provides a practical insight to the case interview with particular examples of outstanding vs. poor interview performance. I hugely recommend using Viktor's tools and resources available on caseinterview.com website during the case interview preparation process.

Decent book, overview of case studies. Not that many examples in it. His website is better and his Look Over My Shoulder course/recordings are well worth getting if you are serious about case interviews.

The best prep book out there
Even if you aren't interested in a career in consulting, this book prepares you for the problem solving process and gives you some great tools and methods with which to structure and approach an situation.Cheng's style is charismatic, simple and peppered with great personal anecdotes. He can be a little self-congratulatory but it's part of his charm. This is a serious book for serious people who want to tackle serious problems.
