## Description

The SPIKE Ferrofluid Display is a mesmerizing interactive kinetic sculpture containing a paramagnetic liquid called ferrofluid. It was originally created by NASA as a prototype rocket fuel, unique in that it could be fed into rocket engines using magnets in zero gravity. It becomes highly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field and forms large spikes and other organic shapes. We created the SPIKE to showcase this amazing liquid in a mesmerizing blend of art and science. It contains 7ml of high quality ferrofluid (lab synthesized by Ferrotec) enclosed in a beautiful aerospace grade anodized aluminum and lab quality glass enclosure. It includes an extremely powerful handheld magnet (made from N52 Neodymium rare earth magnets) that you use to interact with it.

**Q: how many years will the fluid last?**
A: We shoot for 2+ years. Temperature is the biggest factor. If kept near room temp and not shaken up too bad you can see 5+ years with little degradation. It actually gets slightly spikier over time.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Great Looking Display Yet Okay Quality Of Ferrofluid

I was anticipating a high quality product after purchasing cheaper ferrofluid displays before. Unfortunately my item was defective the moment I unwrapped it from the bubble wrap. It was covered in the clear, sticky carrier fluid. Even though this item has more ferrofluid than most displays on the market, the quality of the ferrofluid was okay. The ferrofluid easily breaks up with or without magnetization causing floating black particles that takes away from how amazing feerofluid can be. Perhaps the ferrofluid is softer quality? Maybe I just got a bad one but I’ll be returning this item and getting a refund.
