A Whole New World of Casting On and Binding Off
Cast On Bind Off includes 54 step-by-step methods for casting on and binding off. It begins with cast ons and ends with bind offs. The information is wonderful for every knitter's library. As most knitters, I tend to use a single type of cast on and bind off and tend to stick with these techniques. As the author states, this is usual. The author discusses how she realized that different projects call for different types of cast ons and bind offs and that "different situations call for different techniques, and that using the right one has a huge impact on the finished garment." Most of us learned a particular type of cast on or bind off from the person who taught us how to knit and we tend to stick with that. "My hope is that this book opens a new world of possibilities and expands your horizons for beginning and ending a knitted project." This book can be used to learn new techniques, offers ways to experiment with different techniques and opens us up to a whole world of casting on and binding off that we didn't even know existed."In this book you'll find 33 different cast ons and 21 different bind offs. Each technique features photographs illustrating every step". The book is small enough to take with you when working on a project and includes tips on what technique is best for certain types of projects. The cast ons are divided into basic ones, stretchy, decorative, circular, double-sided, multicolor, provisional, tubular and mobius. The bind offs include basic, stretchy, decorative, and sewn. The photographs, drawings and diagrams are excellent and show in detail how to do each type of cast on and bind off.As a relatively experienced knitter I thought I knew quite a bit about casting on and binding off. This book opened me up to a whole new world of binding off and casting of. It's a wonderful reference book and one I don't know how I did without until now. I highly recommend it and plan to try many of these techniques right away. It is an essential addition to my knitting library.

Useful reference guide
I was surprised to discover that the way my Mum taught me to cast on has a name, the long tail cast on thumb method. This is a good reference book with handy guides in the front and back suggesting which methods work best for certain projects. I just wish there were a few more diagrams/explanations for some methods. For example, Judy’s magic cast on could benefit from more illustrations.

Good descriptions, useless photos
All of the photos use a single color yarn (dark green). This makes it impossible to tell what is part of the bind offs and what is part of the body of the knitting. I couldn't tell what the cast off stitching was supposed to look like, so I gave up and went back to another knitting book I own where the illustrations are self explanatory.

Clear & Concise
I give this book 10 stars. It is the perfect reference for casting on and casting off. The spiral binding allows it to lay flat on the page you need. It's a small size and fits in my knitting bag. The instructions are actually described in a way I can follow and the pictures are actually helpful. I am brand new to knitting and this is just what I needed. Pefect!

More information than I thought
I am a fairly new knitter and struggle sometimes with books and stitches because it's hard for me to read a description and translate that into me doing the action. While I do have books, I have relied on videos. When I looked at some of the pages of this book, I decided to take a chance on it. I am attempting to knit socks so knowing different cast-on and bind-off methods have become more important than they generally are for me.This is a pretty nice little book! So far it looks like the explanations are great but at any time if I feel I need more information, I can see the different methods for what I want and then know what it's called so I can do some web research for videos. The way I see it is it doesn't cover all the things, just cast-on and bind-off, so it can concentrate on all the ways to do it for the effect you want or need. It's not as overwhelming as a huge book (I have those too) and it is easy to find what I want (like a stretchy bind-off) and explore my different options. This isn't an expensive book at all, I feel you can't go wrong with it unless you know all of this information without it. I did not.

Perfect book for reference to give your project polish
I purchased the kindle version of this book so I could reference easily on my iPad. That was a HUGE plus for me as It reduces drastically what I have to carry around with me and it's at my fingertips whenever I want to reference it. I have been knitting since I was a child, over 40 years, and I love having this type of reference book handy because I learned CO and BO techniques my grandmothers and stepmother used but, it's true and sometimes the main parts I am really happy with but the edges just don't look good for the project. If you have a tablet or laptop I HIGHLY recommend purchasing the electronic version. I know some people said the binding in the physical book was not good. I know the kindle app lets you bookmark and write notes. I know I always change some things from the original pattern and like to write that so I remember. As for techniques and pictures I understand if you are a beginner that you might need to look at a video but, for me, the pictures and descriptions are perfect to make me look and know what she is telling me to do. I'm guilty of not being able to think outside what I know a lot of the time and need somthing to make me say, why didn't I think of that?

My cast-on cast-off bible
I've bought a few knitting books over time and they're all tidied together on a shelf gathering dust really, but this one has always stayed within reach, bought it pretty much when it came out and have used it regularly since, as recently as last week when I had to redo the cast-off on the lace edging on a cowl that wasn't stretchy enough. Practical and durable spiral format, easy to find what you're looking for and easy to follow instructions. A must have for knitters.

Bought as a gift.
Bought this as a gift, The book has a ring-spine and thick pages/coverr, it had much fewer pages than I would have expected for its size.I don't know if what's inside on the actual pages is good or not, it was bought as a requested gift, I don't know anything about knitting myself.

Une mine d'or!
