Extech CB10-KIT 3-in-1 Breaker Finder, GFCI Tester, Voltage Detector

The house we bought has multiple outlets with "open ground wires". I found this kit on Amazon. It has everything needed to trace the circuits at a much better price then buying the tools individually (plus it comes with a carry case) . Used the breaker finder to find and throw the breaker, then used the continuity tester to trace the wire to the junction box in my attic.Found the open ground and connected it to the main ground circuit. My only complaint is the voltage detector/flashlight...It is far too sensitive and reads "everything" as having current.

I have used all the tools in the kit except the circuit breaker finder. Recently I used the wire tracer to troubleshoot a non-working GFCI exterior outlet out of several outlets on the same circuit. I was able to verify that it was a loose connection and the problem was solved. Although it seems to be pricey, it is worth the cost when you consider that if I had called an electrician it would cost much more than the price of the kit. Everything is well worth the money, except the pen. It won’t read the right wire if there are more than one wire within each other inside a box. It reads overall that a wire within the box is live, but you won’t be able to identify which wire is live. Even if you separate them. The radius of the pen it may be to sensitive that it actually picks up senses within 6” away from the live wire. But the breaker tracers are awesome. I love them. As far as the pen, I had to purchase another one from a different brand.

I disliked the durability of this purchase. The tip of the non contact tester broke while checking an outlet for power. Two out of the four items, worked well.

The kit contents were just as advertised. The tool for identifying if a circuit was live or not was the least useful as it would sometimes false indicate (which is better than not indicating and having a hot circuit!). The plug-in circuit tester was excellent for identification of which circuit breaker at the master panel was controlling power to the circuit in question. The continuity tester was by far the most useful tool as it could enable testing of a circuit and the LED would flash red or green allowing identification of individual wires as well as identify if a circuit was complete.

Using this to inspect my own house for issues. Was a big help tracking down which outlets are on each breaker. Found the breaker for each room, then shut off the breaker and used the voltage detector to check each outlet. Found several that are on wrong or weird circuits. It's not fun when you think everything in a room is off, but the one outlet you're working on is on a different circuit and still live. For some reason, I was sometimes getting a positive reading on two breakers, but there's a very real possibility it's due to the wiring in my house, or I just needed to adjust the meter sensitivity a little more. Didn't spend much time on it because I knew the other breaker was not the one I was looking for. I'll try it again sometime and update Also plan on using in the attic to locate and identify wires that are buried under blow in insulation. Will update once I have time to tackle that project. Haven't used the continuity tester yet, but should come in handy.

It works as designed so all three products are perfect. The one thing I think anyone that wants to buy this is that the non contact voltage sensor is always on unless you remove the batteries with each use. Mine doesn’t have a power switch which I would’ve liked but again everything works as deigned so there’s no reason to lower the score.

I gave it one star because both the non-contact voltage tester and circuit breaker finder are inaccurate and unreliable. The voltage detector lights up few inches far from the plug or wires. So no way to find which whole of the plug or which wire is hot. The same goes for breaker finder, it beeps on almost all of breakers in the box, even in lowest sensitivity level. It's useless!

Purchased kit for personal use works well for home use would stepping up to another kit if using it for work. Dislike to handheld voltage testor with the light, it has no sound just the light when it detects voltage. I have similar models with sound and lights I find them better

Bought for my husband, he seems happy with it. TBH I have no idea what this is used for (electricity is like magic to me) but my husband is getting use out of it so I can say that I think it was good value for the money.

Overall works as expected, the sensitivity dial doesn't seem to give it a satisfactory range in my opinion. Construction feels on the fragile side. The case is nice and you can fit more things such as a small voltmeter. Recommended if you are comfortable with its price range.

The GFCI tester stopped working as did the breaker finder I had it replaced and the Breaker finding unit stopped working and would not pinpoint anything . The non contact tester needs an on off switch every time I use it I have to replace the batteries or I have to remove the batteries . The only redeeming tool would be the continuity tester works very well

Every beginner to professional should have one of these kits in their electrical bag!
