Laljee Godhoo Hing (Asafoetida) 50gms

This is the secret ingredient I was missing. It adds an aroma and flavor similar to onion, but not exactly, better. it is a beneficial flavor and aroma. I believe any recipe where onion is required would benefit from about 1/16th teaspoon. That may seem like a ridiculously small amount, but this seasoning is potent. Use very little until you are familiar with it. Great in a beef stew. One serious down side is this seasoning is hard to contain. It will add an aroma to your entire cubbord unless you take measures to contain it. I repurposed a pickle jar and I store the small spice container inside the sealed jar. Solved the problem.

I was trying to use the spice as an onion alternative for non-Indian dishes as recommended by several people. The smell is so strong and sickening that it just will not work as well. I would only use it on Indian dishes.

Good for food that makes gas . Cabbages, beans and lentils. They are mixed with some powdered grains so unsuitable if grain is restricted.

The item works well when cooking all types of beans.
