Evolutionary Psychology: The New Science of the Mind

There is a lot of criticism of evolutionary psychology, which is addressed in this book. It is of course an academic book, so I imagine not many people with a passing interest or dislike for EP will read it. However, the insights offered in this book are often amazing and offer crucial lines of enquiry. For example, while debates on sexual assault are unlikely to be comfortable, the information offered here can be useful in addressing the crime. Elsewhere, the insights on things like dominance in the workplace could have you immediately observing interactions in a new light. Anyway, it's written in a relatively easy to read style, organised and presented well, and deep in content. I highly recommend.

I'm a 3rd year psychology student at Uni, this book was recommended to me by lecturers and it does not disappoint. This book is a great textbook talking about a wide area of evolutionary psychology and with references to other relevant research which is great for extra reading and essay writing. David Buss is a good writer and the text is easy to following for a highly detailed and in-depth book.

I haven't read this yet, it only arrived today. When I was planning on buying this I was put off by the number of reviews saying the print quality was bad, I just wanted to leave this review to say this isn't the case for me.

Contrary to many of the other reviews, the copy that I received was a high quality, full colour edition. The book is massive and utterly in-depth. A great and up to date reference book for its field.

Buss does a fantastic job of providing both an overview of the fundamental concepts of Evo Psych as well as its latest findings. This is a perfect companion for students and interested laypeople alike. Evolutionary Psychology: The New Science of the Mind is THE primary resource for those of you who are looking to begin research (whether personal or professional) in this fascinating and important field.

Among academics who teach introductory courses in evolutionary psychology, this is widely agreed to be the leading textbook. Dr. David Buss was "there at the beginning," a few decades ago, has been a productive and respected scholar. He has been an academic leader in organizations relevant to this important field of study. This book is comprehensive, interesting to read, and readable. Although a university-type textbook, it is accessible to any reader who Is interested in an in-depth treatment of this field of study. For those who want a quicker overview of this topic, there are many good books for the general public. One very good example, although a bit dated, is "The Moral Animal" by journalist and author Robert Wright.

The information in this book permeates nearly all disciplines. Understanding how and why people behave the way they do has incredible utility. Understanding the cognitive adaptations outlined in this book brings the whole world into a new light. I can't praise it enough, it's an easy buy.

This book is a gold mine. The author explores deeply the evolutionary and psychological mechanisms that lead to our attitudes in the 21st century. Particularly interesting for understanding the long and short term strategies of both sexes. Also, there are pictures, charts, boxes and sidebars; all items that make the reading much more intuitive than in traditional books. Not only is it useful for studying purpose, but also for every-day life. Conclusion: This book is worth every € you'll invest in for. Bonus: I had a little problem with taxes that the seller helped me fix very quickly.
