Depend on your light color preference. Lighting color is measured in degree Kelvin _the lower number 2700K is the light color of an incandescent soft white bulb with more yellow light and the high number daylight 6500K is a brighter blue light. Cool White 4100K is the color of most the bright ceiling lighting in retail stores and offices. Some people feel the high K bulbs is harder on the eyes. Google a Kelvin light chart and use the number valve to guide you. The color names get confusing. Also check the chart on the packaging. High watts will generate more lumens. Lumen and Kelvin color are not directly related but there is a relationship. Read about photography light if are concerned about the color of your pictures and reflected light. Educate yourself and then experiment.

Will a 2-way socket work with a 3-way bulb?

May you be confused by the way normal household lighting is wired. Don't believe there is a 2 way medium base bulb (lamp). The bulb need a 3-way light socket to work at the three lighting levels but the lamp socket normally functions off of two wires for a simple setup like a table lamps. This is called a two wire circuit but could have a third ground wire (green or bare). The bulb has 2 hot contacts points on the base for a low and med setting and both are engaged for the high level. The turn knob switch on the socket changes the lighting level and has 4 positions _ off-1-2-3. LED lights do not work with normal (older) dimmer switches but do work with 3 way or 4 way wall switches that are wired together like in a dining room or with stairs switches. A 3-way wall switch still works if the bulb is installed in and controlled in a normal 3 way (level) light socket but only control electrical power to the fixture. These bulbs are digital vs filament but for simplicity they work the same for different light levels. A 3-way wall switch is for two wall switch locations and a lamp fixture(s). The wiring for two or more wall switches controlling a single light can be confusing and have numerous wiring configurations. Google 3-way light switch wiring for layout options. If a 3 way wall switch has been replaced and it is not uncommon for one leg of the switch to not work properly, if a switch wire has been reinstalled on a wrong terminal screw. Not all wall switches are laid out the same. Troubleshoot with the wiring layout diagram. Summary - generally the lamp lighting level is controlled by the socket multi-position switch knob and the wall switch however configured controls power to the wall outlet or light fixture. Thanks for asking.  Cool White is 4000K and Daylight is 5000K.  Everyone perceives light slightly differently and it's mostly personal preference.  If you search the internet for this topic,  you will see a lot of information on how to choose colors.  Remember that the specification for color is the numeric value such as 2700K, 3000K, 4000, 5000K, etc.  Terms such as warm, soft, bright, cool, daylight vary from one company to another.  So when you are shopping for the color, use the numeric value.
