Very interesting
Having spent 15 years working in Haiti, I have personally seen the hardships these people face daily. The lack of basic needs, water, food, health care, jobs. They live a life of living from day to day, with little help. They suffer losses beyond belief. Daily tragedy, and yet they are alive another day, only to face the same problems again tomorrow.Rock on!

Blessed are those who love the poor.
This book is a documentary of the struggles and triumphs of Dr. Paul Farmer and his relentless pursuit of helping the poor in Haiti with TB, H I V and other infectious diseases. It shows what one man can do with a group of followers that have a vision to make an impact on the lives of the poor in a desolated country. Haiti is one of the poorest of the poorest countries in the world with seemingly insurmountable barriers to overcome. But there is hope through the organization called Partners in Health that is making a difference in lives of the Haitian people. Read the story of this amazing person and the organizations he created to make a difference in the world. Get involved and leave a legacy of love for the poor.

Content is different than original
**Content of this book is different than original text** I ended up having to buy the original version for school because it has more details and deeper conversations of the novels purpose; I thought I was buying a hard cover version not a different version. The "adult" content dealing with normalities of internal civil conflict weren't out of the ordinary- unfortunately- or largely unknown events in the first place so it is a little strange to me why this "young adult" version was necessary. This is the point of view from a person who has always been interested in humanitarian efforts and what's really happening in the world, though.Good read for younger (middle school if students aren't advanced) adults, I guess. Text is large, seems double spaced, content/ flow is simplified.

Great writing, great story, great doctor
This is one of my all-time favorite books. A giant of nonfiction writing, Tracy Kidder, delivers a vivid and moving account of the herculean efforts of Dr. Paul Farmer, one of the true heroes of our time, as he tirelessly fights the spread of drug-resistant TB and along the way improves the quality of life in the nation of Haiti and other communities around the world.

Wholehearted and insightful
There is much to learn about a long term giver, passion and visions. It’s enlightening to see people’s work and success, especially during an epidemic.

Glad for "youth" version
What an admirable fellow, this Dr. Paul Farmer. My book club read the entire book. I cheated and read the "condensed" version.I'm so glad to have read the book, and so glad that I didn't have to plow through additional details. What Dr. Farmer has done in Haiti and worldwide is worthy of broadcasting.

It seemed dumbed down, and I expect that if it were ...
As I did not read the original (not Adapted for Young Readers), I am unaware as to what was sacrificed, but the lacking of whatever that was, was evident. It seemed dumbed down, and I expect that if it were not for that, it may have been an exemplary text, but nonetheless, it was underwhelming.

OK - for a 'young adults' version.
Nowhere did it say that this edition was edited for 'young readers'. Interesting enough, but I guess I need to look for the 'adult version' now. An amazing story, but in all honesty I would have been better off paying a little more and using a proper bookshop!

Great book, a little romanticized of Paul Farmer's life
Great book, a little romanticized of Paul Farmer's life. Nonetheless, the story truly captures the great attributes that we all love and admire about Paul Farmer.
