Opened the box & saw a installation cd & thought great, I don't haaaave a cd driver, but thought about going to the StarTech website to download the drivers. On the website, I looked up the model number & the drivers were right there. (They're r several to choose from but they're alllll labeled as to which one they're for. Windows 11 is the first one.) Downloaded the driver & then had to extract it. (It maaaaaay have just ran out but it recommended extracting them so I did.) After they extracted I clicked on it again & selected run. Hooked up the adapter AFTER all of that. (It MIGHT have worked just hooking it up but didn't want to take a chance. Installation is a pain n the butt IF u HAVE to do all this. It miiiiight b plug & play?, but I did it this way. U can try that if u want, i didn't want to try that.) The picture quality is BEAUTIFUL. Response time has NO lag, it's just like it is on the laptop screen. Overall I'm happy about it. Wish it was simpler plug & play. I didnt explore any work/hack arounds. However, it does work with multiple adapters of the same make or model - or maybe they just need to support DisplayLink **Q: How is the lag on this device? can it smoothly play video?** A: No lag issues here. It does a few weird graphical things but video works perfect. **Q: can i use this backwards from cpu hdmi out to usb 3 monitor?** A: No. **Q: Does this product work on ubuntu 16?** A: Works out of the box with on Ubuntu 17.10 with the latest Display Link driver (from the Display Link website) installed. Installed the driver without fanfare per the website instructions. Plugged in the device after receiving it 2 days later and fired right up. I had read that this could be done but after several attempts was't convinced. So I called StarTech customer service and after several questions this was recommended for me. It was also suggested I look on other sites for the best price. For those of you with a Mac mini this works because it has its own graphics card built in. It will take one of your two C ports, but if you are like me and you need three screens to work from home this product rocks. Set up was super simple and took less than five minutes. Thank you StarTech Customer Service for working with me before I even purchased your product!!!!! P.S.
